What I find incredibly profound is that the process of healing always leads us to another’s healing. I was discussing freedom with a friend and how to continuously live a free life and I discovered that the only way to do that is to love. Love requires vulnerability and the continuous dying of self that leads to trust. In humility it makes room for my brokenness and the people around me’s; and therefore freedom becomes relational; an invitation for both the broken and the breaker. This is where you say, “yeah, easier said than done!” And I fully shake my head and say, “yes, and I’m in it with you!”

Want to read an excerpt that has forever shapes me? Glad you said yes:

“ Then Judy walked in with a bouquet of flowers. I got really upset.

“How could you think of buying flowers if we can’t even eat!” I remember saying, frustrated.

Judy’s reply has been etched in my heart for over thirty years now.

“We need to feed our souls, too.”

The irony is that I am an artist. I am the one, supposedly, feeding people’s souls. But in worrying for tomorrow, in the stoic responsibility I felt to make ends meet, to survive, I failed to be the artist. Judy was the artist that day: she brought home a bouquet.”

“We need to feed our souls, too.” Those words still resonate with me today.”

Mine too, Mr. Fujimura, mine too.

“For me, and for many of us, our first waking thought of the day is "I didnt get enough sleep." The next one is "I don't have enough time." Whether true or not, that thought of not enough occurs to us automatically before we even think to question or examine it.” - Lynne Twist

So how do you push back waking up in scarcity?
1. Spiritually remind yourself that you are not God, so therefore you have a provider that operates only in abundance.
2. Emotionally take inventory of where you are and what triggers you not feeling like you have enough. You may need to verbally say “I am enough. I have enough.”
3. Mentally remind yourself of all that you have (your body, your breath, your heartbeat, the people, the resources, etc.)
4. Physically step into your body and let each movement or breath remind you of the gift of life.
5. Intellectually take a ten second birds eye view of the culture that surrounds you and challenge the ideologies that jeopardize your being.
6. Environmentally invite nature into your perspective (consider the flowers, and trees, the animals that do not fret over who they will be or what they will do)
7. Socially invite in healthy relationships that allow you to fully show up in all your splendor!
8. Occupationally set aside a specific amount of time to your purpose and calling. Ask yourself what and how am I being called to contribute to my work today.

You are enough. You have enough. So walk in your “enoughness” shorty.

To be human is to navigate the complex, often complicated, and uncomfortable realities of living in a broken world. We often want to form silos with our emotions only allowing ourselves to feel one thing because it’s less vulnerable, but what if we lived in the tension. The tension of the both/and. The place where creativity and art thrive, where our eyes are opened to make space for the humanity of others, the both/and, where we can fight perfectionism, tokenism, and hero mentalities. Today, I’m giving myself permission to live in both the celebration and grief of this season of life. Both/and. And you are allowed too to (that’s how both/and works).

Tuesday thought:
- I’m not interested in fighting for the pwi’s to Begin (in 2021) paying attention to programs that have already existed, that they have had access to for years as a means to make spaces more diverse, anti-racist, and equitable.

I want box office points, I want income transparency, the establishment of corporate social responsibility roles, I want to see actions set in place that ensure the longevity and legacy of black folk and our community and I want them to look like and talk like dollar signs. The language and image many of these pwi’s are more familiar with.

Here’s a playlist to inspire that change:
1. Money - Cardi B
2. B!$$$ Better Have My Money- Rihanna
3.Dinero- JLo, DJ Khalid, Cardi B
4. Money Good- Megan Thee Stallion
5. Money Maker- Ludacris and Pharrell Williams
