Shoutout to Contemporary Music Center for sending Tommy our way. From MD and in the area for the afternoon, he was looking for a shop to make some tweaks to his MIM Strat that had been upgraded by a shop in MD (pickguard, locking tuners and trem). He sat by the bench as we went thru it. A couple of tuners not seated flat, all were loose. The bridge wouldn’t move even though strings AND trem springs were off (screwed down tight). Step by step thru setup making things right. Proper action (was very high) and the bridge was never intonated when installed. He just might start making the trek to Flippin…

‘Krzysztof Penderecki: Europe in Tribute to the Master’ concert took place yesterday in Hugh Lane Gallery in memory of Poland’s greatest contemporary composer.
It was the first in-person concert post-COVID as part [email protected] Concert Series and we were delighted that live audience were able to witness this phenomenal performance by Hard Rain Soloist Ensemble and its director Greg Caffrey.

Tim wants to learn guitar and his wife found this 70’s Hondo Hummingbird at a yard sale for $35. Shoutout to Contemporary Music Center for sending him our way… basically a “wall hanger” in the condition it’s in, we got it going for him. Someone had strung it lefty without messing with the nut so back to righty was easy. The broken out saddle was replaced and every trick used to lower the action. It’s playable and fine for a beginner.

I am fully vaccinated and now offering in-person lessons again at Contemporary Music Center in Chantilly, VA and 7DrumCity and Music on the Hill in Washington, DC.
But we're not just going "back to normal." We're not into "new normal" either. This is just part of a continuing evolution. Let me explain...
My entire orchestral percussion "fleet" is in-store at CMC, including a 4.3 8ve Adams rosewood marimba that I added JUST before lockdown, a vibraphone, two timpani and various accessories in a sound-treated room, with professional audio and video recording equipment at the ready, to make your youtube videos and audition tapes.
7DC caters to the adult drumset student, with two well-maintained drumsets in every teaching room, and the most forward-thinking educational pipeline around--practice rooms, the Flashband "speed dating for musicians" model, and the top-notch, fully-staffed, newest venue in the city, The Pocket, ALL UNDER THE SAME ROOF.
Music on the Hill's window studios are the ultimate COVID-proof learning environment for kids and folks who are still at-risk or have other immunodeficiency concerns. They also boast an extensive sheet music library and summer rock camps for kids!
In addition to teaching the well-rounded percussionist (I teach drumset and orchestral, marching and hand percussion), I teach electric bass, and I have added composition / songwriting coaching and music production to the list of things I teach. When a student's tastes and interests change, we pivot.
--And don't forget, I am still offering virtual lessons! COVID has allowed me to expand my teaching to reach people outside the DMV. Each week I get to hang out with folks from NYC, Portland, San Francisco, NC, etc. I have built my own digital home distance learning studio including three different camera angles, and MIDI drumset and mallet percussion for the best sound and video experience for my students.
So I guess what I'm saying is, if you're looking to get in a room or on a Zoom and learn about music, hit me up. Let's do this.
