Tonight is THE night.🎉💃🏻🎊🥳🥹😭🫶🏽🤟🏽❤️🎉🎊
Tonight, we celebrate one year of artists knowing there is a place that will put their work up on the wall.
A place of inclusive opportunity.
A place of genuine love.
A place of dignity and acceptance.
A place of art and accessibility.
The Luckiest Light was born from the hearts of two parents who know what it feels like to have someone they love turned away because of a diagnosis. This isn’t a business. It is a movement for those who do not wake up with the same opportunities as their peers.
One year ago, on an early Monday morning, we opened our doors to artists who had been waiting for a place to call their own. Since then, The Luckiest Light has become a dignified professional art studio and gallery, hosting monthly exhibitions, inclusive fundraising events, and celebrations for the art community as a whole.
Tonight, I am proud to open our doors to celebrate THEM.
I want to thank Anthony Allerton, who fueled my heart when he said, “Kim…It’s about damn time.”
I want to thank Joe Harter for making sure I’m never alone in the gallery.
I want to thank and Rachel Rowe, who walk through our doors with genuine love and support in their hearts.
I want to thank Cassidy for showing me what true forgiveness looks like.
Hannah, thank you for showing me courage on the runway during our Inclusive Fashion Show!
Miryana, thank you for teaching me how to start each day with a smile on my face and creativity in my heart.
Ms. Dotty, thank you for bringing your son to paint through TOUCH and reminding us that art belongs to EVERYONE.
JP Henry thank you for helping me find my voice!
Brandon Athey, thank you for flying across the country to teach Maryland students how to paint while jamming to music and showing them what possibility looks like.
Thank you Khamari for being a part of true inclusion.
Thank you to our community for stepping in and asking, “How can we help?” The village showed up at 220 N. Washington St!!!
Thank you to all of the special needs parents who remind me that we are a different kind of force. We are here to lift our families up TOGETHER.
Thank you to our board members and volunteers for carrying this mission beyond Maryland and showing up to make magic happen.
Thank you to the American Visionary Art Museum for trusting our gallery with Judith Scott’s work and, more importantly, for recognizing our artists as ARTISTS.
Thank you to my husband and my children for saying, “Let’s make one hell of an impact for THEM.”
Thank you to everyone who donated and supported the artists. Thank you to everyone who sponsored an event this year. Thank you to every volunteer, donor, advocate, artist, and supporter who believed in “this” when I was pulling art supplies in a wagon 4 years ago.
And thank you, Isaac and Nora.
You changed our lives forever.
The world can learn a lot from our artists. I know I have. Maybe the world would be a much better place if we were all a little more like them.
Here’s to one year of The Luckiest Light.
And this is only the beginning.
Make Art. Let’s CELEBRATE
