Artists Way

Artists Way Artist's Way - a community experience fueled by creativity. We aim to bring Pine Belt artisans and Hattiesburg local business together.

Join us as we usher the works of skilled creatives into beloved locations around Hattiesburg for a night to remember. An elevated art experience, The Artist's Way is coming to Downtown Hattiesburg on November 2, 2024, from 5pm to 8pm.This event shares its name with the popular book written by Julia Cameron in 1992 that encourages creativity in everyone. The creators of this event wanted to emphasi

ze the idea of the “way” as a path and the “way” as a method of working. Visitors can follow a path that leads to various artists and explore the way these artists express their creativity. Featuring exclusively juried artists and a sophisticated ambiance, this event will transform our downtown into a captivating art gallery, with over 30 local businesses hosting Mississippi artists who have been carefully curated by The Artists Way committee. This committee is composed of local artists and downtown business owners who have a passion for art and our town. The Artists Way encourages a walk through historic downtown Hattiesburg. A map and brochure will list all participating businesses and will guide visitors to numbered signs identifying each business. Visitor can enjoy light refreshments provided by the hosting business while experiencing fine art.

Artist of The Day! - Bethanie Woods

Bethanie Woods received her education at William Carey University having earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and Master's in education degree in Art. She is a local artist who was raised in the outer rural areas of Hattiesburg. When she was a child, she developed an intimate love for drawing landscapes and life around her. She began her formal painting career in her freshman year of college and has passionately explored the infinite painting world since. Artists such as Mark Rothko, Claude Monet, and Joan Mitchell heavily influence her works. The energetic color abstractions she creates are sincere spiritual and emotional expressions. Bethanie has received art awards from 2020 Mississippi Collegiate Art competition winning Best in Painting Award, 2021 Art Student Exhibition Sarah Gillespie Museum of Art Best in Show Award, and 2022 South Mississippi Art Association Juried Exhibition, Best in Show Award. She has been featured in Odd Fellows Gallery, Sarah Gillespie Museum of Art, Lucile Parker Gallery, Mississippi Art Colony traveling exhibition, and Nuestro Arte Gallery. She is a current member of the South Mississippi Art Association. In pursuit of a career as a painter, Bethanie is currently exhibiting at Mainstreet Gallery in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and working as an adjunct art instructor at William Carey University.

Artist of The Day! - Jacqueline Gonzalez Wooton

I was born in Puerto Rico and raised in New Orleans. Art has always been a constant in my life. Growing up, my father’s artistic talent inspired me, and I began to paint at a young age. My love for color and vibrant imagery is evident in my work, which often reflects the cultural richness of Puerto Rico and New Orleans, places that have deeply shaped my identity. While I primarily have worked from a home studio, through the years I have also had the opportunity to showcase my art at art fairs, juried exhibitions and art council exhibits, enabling to connect with other artists and share my passion with the community. After moving to Hattiesburg in 2017, I became a member of the Hattiesburg Arts Council and served as President for a period of 3 years. I have participated in art exhibits for the Hattiesburg Arts Council, the Meridian Museum, and the MS Art Association. I currently serve as Vice-President of the MS Latinx Art Association and I am co-owner of the Nuestro Arte Gallery in downtown Hattiesburg. My artwork can be found via my personal website, www.JackieGonzalezArt, and at Abode in Metairie, Louisiana, NOLA Artwork in the French Quarter, and Local Style in Hattiesburg. I am also artist member of Where Y’Art Works in New Orleans, where my work is exhibited via their website.
