Arts on the Square

There are only two more weeks to see the current exhibit of art, "How I see It: Paintings and Portraits," works of Harrisburg-based artist Rodney Pate. Each of the paintings is a vibrant, color-filled depiction of favorite people and places of the artist. The exhibit is housed in the Arts on the Square Gallery in Geneva Hall and in the atrium hallway. The best time to see them is following the worship services on June 21 and 28. Park in the adjacent Market Square Garage and give your license plate number to the parking attendant in the atrium for free exit.

DON'T FORGET OUR CURRENT ART GALLERY EXHIBIT!
Here you can see the video that gallery coordinator Beth Hager produced with artist Rodney Pate. You may also visit the gallery free of charge on Sundays or other times when you are in the church. Feast your eyes on this exciting exhibit! Art lovers are raving at the vibrant colors and sensitive nature of the works. "Mr. Pate is a master!" The exhibit is up through June 28.

𝗜𝗙 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗠𝗜𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗗 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗛 𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗥𝗔𝗟 𝗠𝗔𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞𝗦, 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗠𝗜𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗗 𝗦𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗬 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧-𝗖𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗦
The final presentation of the Arts on the Square 2025-2026 season featured the Sanctuary Choir of Market Square Presbyterian Church, international concert organist Dr. Isabelle Demers, and conductor Tyler Canonico-Dilley performing Maurice Duruflé's "Requiem, Opus 9" and Louis Vierne's "Messe Solonnelle in C # minor, Opus 16," two of France's most beloved choral works.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗿 is surely the finest church choir in central Pennsylvania and possibly in the state. A fine blend of voices, excellent diction, and accurate pitch allow them to weave melodies from the quietest passages to the thrilling crescendos that mark the pieces performed in Sunday's concert.

𝗜𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 is known internationally as a concert organist who has "has enraptured listeners worldwide with spell-binding performances." A Québec native and graduate of the Juilliard School, she is a professor at McGill University in Montréal. Dr. Demers brought all of her skill and musicality to her accompaniment, setting the mood and enhancing every passage while supporting the choir.

Conductor 𝗧𝘆𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗼-𝗗𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘆, called "one of the East Coast’s finest and dynamic concert organists and inspiring church musicians," rehearsed the musicians to the point of perfection and then showcased their talents with his skillful direction.

The concert marked the end of the musical portion of this season, but the Arts on the Square Gallery show, “𝗔𝘀 𝗜 𝗦𝗲𝗲 𝗜𝘁: 𝗣𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘁𝘀” 𝗯𝘆 𝗥𝗼𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗲, is available on Sundays through June 28.

WHICH IS WHICH?
One of these men is Maurice Duruflé, and the other is Louis Vierne? Do you know which is which?

You can hear some of their finest music this Sunday, May 3, at 4:00 p.m. at Market Square Church, 20 S. Second Street, as the Sanctuary Choir performs one's Requiem and the other's Messe Solennelle. Dr. Isabel Demers will accompany on the organ, and Tyler Canonico-Dilley will conduct.
