Sharing how I built this America 250 garland for a charming storefront in downtown Haddonfield I’m blessed to work with.
The skirmish is coming June 6 - the inspiration for this garland was the blue from the colonial uniforms. We’re looking forward to defeating the British again this week.
If you invest in a solid wired pine garland you will get a lot of use out of it if you love decorating year round.
The wire needles twist around ribbon, florals, and ornaments to hold everything in place, or you can wire or zip ties - even bread ties - to hold things on. This allows you to reuse your materials in various ways throughout the year because let’s be honest they’re an investment!
Step one is to hang the garland. I keep the back part against the wall flat.
Step 2 is add the blue mesh. I start at the top and work my way down, twisting it as a go.
Step 3 add my greenery to start hiding the pine. I used a blend of Ginko stems, Ivy, and something else I forgot.
Step 4 Flowers - I knew the look I wanted but only had so many so wanted to space them out without it looking perfectly spaced out.
Step 5 Ribbons - I tied soft blue velvet ribbons to some roses and let them dangle down to softly blow in the breeze and added blue stars to a few, added ribbons to fill in where the pine was still peeking out.
Step 6 Make the bows for the top. I used 1.5in ribbon for the sides and 4 in ribbon for the middle.
I still have a couple details to add I think we’re going back in to add some stems - then that should do it!
All my supplies are purchased wholesale y’all except for the garland - that’s from Costco last holiday season.
