New Incoming Incident Management Team for the Elk Fire to Utilize the Gunnison County Fairgrounds

Beginning Friday, August 7th, the incoming Incident Management Team managing the Elk Fire (located north of Lake City) will be utilizing the southeast portion of the Gunnison County Fairgrounds. This means you will see an increase in activity, vehicles, and equipment mainly on the southeast side of the grounds. They are scheduled to be there for at least a few weeks.

The area they will be utilizing is highlighted in red on the map provided below.

What Fairgrounds users need to know:
▪️All regularly scheduled events and special events will continue to happen.
▪️The main parking lot will still be available.
▪️All regular users are to use the entrance off Evans St.
▪️Access to the stock pens and parking area for trucks and trailers will be maintained from S. Wisconsin (for entering) and using W. Bidwell Ave (for exiting).

Please drive with care when entering and exiting the fairgrounds during this time. We greatly appreciate the community's willingness to share the space and accommodate the firefighters.

Good Afternoon Everyone! We wanted to post our public calendars for the arenas! We have finalized the schedule for the end of the year. Be advised that any participant using the arena should have their valid 2026 arena card at this time! These schedules are subject to change, but we will do our best to notify you of any changes. As a reminder all seasonal rentals end and open riding will be available every day October 1st on. We will continue to groom the arena weather permitting through October.

It’s Thursday all, which means it’s time for the Gunnison Cattlemen's Days at the fairgrounds! We have slack runs this morning along with the Colorado State University Extension Gunnison County 4-H swine and sheep shows! Then this evening we kick off the first of three straight nights of Rodeo Fun! Go by the booth at Gunnison bank and trust to get your tickets and come join us for a great weekend!

Good Morning Everyone! We wanted to post our public calendars for the arenas! We are finalizing July's schedule, and we should have that out mid June so you can plan ahead. Be advised that any participant using the arena should have their valid 2026 arena card at this time! These schedules are subject to change, but we will do our best to notify you of any changes!

Gunnison County Fairgrounds will begin regular summer maintenance on Monday, May 4th, 2026. At this time users will need to hold a valid 2026 Arena Card per Gunnison County Fairgrounds Policy. Arena Cards are $25.00, and can be purchased at the main office.

We are excited for this season, and we continue to strive to provide the community with a clean, safe, well maintained area to enjoy equestrian activity.
