HONORABLE MENTION

Congratulations to Anastasia Rezvova of the University of Colorado Denver, Honorable Mention recipient in MOA's 2026 Design and Build Competition! Her proposal, "Soundscape Pavilion," received the $1,500 Honorable Mention award. Anastasia is a second-year student in CU Denver's Master of Architecture program.

"Soundscape Pavilion" proposes a half-dome performance and listening space with a woven glulam timber structure designed to reflect, diffuse, and reshape sound. The pavilion also incorporates polarized glass and integrated lighting.

THIRD PLACE ANNOUNCED!

Congratulations to Sophia Riffo-Jensen, Tyler Peterson, and Sierra Murray of Utah State University, Third Place winners of MOA's 2026 Design and Build Competition! Their proposal, "Soundwave Pavilion", received the $5,000 Third Place award.

"Soundwave Pavilion" proposes a stainless steel bandshell with integrated lighting and acoustic infrastructure, surrounded by native wetland planting, accessible pathways, and circulation through the landscape.

SECOND PLACE ANNOUNCED!

Congratulations to Aarif Ahmad of Harvard Graduate School of Design, Second Place winner of MOA's 2026 Design and Build Competition! His proposal, "A Shared Leaf", received the $7,500 Second Place award.

Inspired by Marjorie Park's landscape, "A Shared Leaf" proposes a leaf-like timber bandshell that touches the ground at two points, along with an elevated walkway through the surrounding landscape. The bandshell is designed as a performance venue, gathering space, and sculptural landmark within the park.

FIRST PLACE ANNOUNCED!

Congratulations to Nikki Nolan and Andrew Emerson of Arapahoe Community College, First Place winners of MOA's 2026 Design and Build Competition! Their proposal, "Through the Looking Glass", received the $10,000 First Place award.

Inspired by Marjorie Park's existing Alice in Wonderland sculptures and landscape, "Through the Looking Glass" proposes a sculptural mushroom canopy that doubles as an acoustic performance structure for this year's theme, Soundscapes in Structure.

Opening tomorrow, Wednesday July 29! The Museum of Outdoor Arts invites you to the opening reception for "Striking Sparks", the 2026 Design and Build Summer Internship Exhibition. 🐎

Featuring new site-specific installations by eight emerging artists, "Striking Sparks" is the culmination of an intensive eight-week collaborative residency led by MOA Leadership Tiffany Matheson Leitner and Artist Fellow Josh Palmeri.
Join us in Marjorie Park on July 29 from 5–8 PM to celebrate the artists and their work. This event is free and open to the public, with offerings from and MOA's beverage bar.

Emerging Artists: Amy Chen, Alejandra Contreras, Evelyn Eck, Madeline Kim, Emilee Korach, Audrey Martignetti, Amelia Pearson, and Casey Thomas.

Meet 2026 Design and Build Intern: Casey Thomas!

Thomas .thomas_designs is pursuing a degree in Industrial Design with a concentration in Furniture Design. Based in Birmingham, Alabama, Thomas primarily works with wood and steel.
Through this work, Thomas explores how furniture can impact the mood of a given environment. From playful designs to more serious pieces, Thomas creates work that responds to gaps identified within the furniture market. This summer, Thomas is one of eight artists collaborating to create site-specific outdoor artworks as part of MOA's Design & Build internship in Marjorie Park.

Meet 2026 Design and Build Intern: Amelia Pearson!

Pearson is pursuing a degree in Art Education with a minor in Architecture at The Ohio State University (2027). Based in Columbus, Ohio, Pearson primarily works in ceramics and metalworking/welding.

Through this work, Pearson explores themes of nostalgia, home, and the built environment, often influenced by architecture and the spaces people inhabit. Pearson relies heavily on intuition throughout the art-making process, allowing materials, forms, and experiences to guide the direction of each piece. This summer, Pearson is one of eight artist interns collaborating to create site-specific outdoor artworks as part of MOA's Design and Build internship in Marjorie Park.

Meet 2026 Design and Build Intern: Audrey Martignetti!

Martignetti is pursuing a BFA in Sculpture and Illustration at the Rochester Institute of Technology (2027). Based in Rochester, New York, Martignetti primarily works with metal, focusing on bronze, iron, and steel, while also incorporating wood and digital media such as Adobe Photoshop and Procreate during ideation.

Martignetti experiments with metal, casting, and form, exploring how materials transform through process. Inspired by recurring forms in nature, Martignetti translates organic forms into metal in ways that challenge its perceived rigidity, allowing it to feel more fluid and expressive. Current work is centered on transformation and the ways material and process reshape both form and expectation. This summer, Martignetti is one of eight artist interns collaborating to create site-specific outdoor artworks as part of MOA's Design and Build internship in Marjorie Park.
