Beautiful Piece of History
I have just finished restoring this beautiful antique spinning wheel from the early to mid-1700's. It came to me last summer all worm-riddled, dry-rotted and had either missing pieces or broken pieces jammed in a box. I said a little prayer over it and asked for the wisdom and skill to return this beauty to Barbara in a condition similar to what it was supposed to look like. I am very pleased at the end result. The little fellow is singing a happy tune and will alloe Barbara to spin on it again. What a precious little piece of early American history!
Spinning flyers 200 years later....
There are some good things that come of bad winter weather. I got to do some of the spinning wheel work I was behind on. I also found a beautiful wheel for Barbara's "lateral double spindle Saxony wheel and have it just about completed as you can see below. (or in an upcoming post if I can't post pictures AND a video here)
I finished all of Barbara's wheels and wheel parts, so the wheel above, J.Farnham, CPW wheel, Treadle for the pendulum wheel and two flyers are finished and ready to be picked up.
I also worked on Joan's wheel and two for friends of hers... A pretty Ashford Traveller and an antique Saxony like Joans.
I am now caught up on the wheels for a little while but have lots more scheduled to come in for repairs.
Now, my focus shifts to my books for a little while. I have two that are very close to publishing and a new one I'm writing about my Native heritage vision quest... I am writing it as I go and things are revealed to me. It will be awhile...and interesting to say the least.
Martha's Wheel
I finished Martha's wheel this evening and have it spinning in excellent condition. All I have to do yet is turn out a distaff and it's completely finished. Look at it run.....
This is the little marked "RM" wheel....It's SWEET!!!!!!!
Got the drive band on Bridget Whalen's Norwegian double table wheel this morning and Vick did a little spinning to test it out
Spring is here and so is the Hudson Valley Yarn Crawl...today is the last day and no one has been here....yesterday or today so far! Where are all you knitters and spinners who were bogged down by snow and praying for Spring? It's here and so are we...
Looks Sweet, Sounds Sweet, Spins sweet...IS SWEET!!!
