Good afternoon, everyone!

I am happy to announce that the formal turnover of the $1,041 donation from "Bayanihan for a Cause" was successfully sent to the university’s bank account today, January 17, 2026, at 2:28 PM.

Moreover, the Grants Chamber of Commerce (via the Cibola Arts Council) donated another $1,000 for the performers' props and costumes! Yay!!! We have raised a grand total of $2,041 from this event!

Thank you all for your supportive souls and all-out effort.

🌸 STEP INTO ELEGANCE: The Paseo de Narciso 🌸

The stage is set for a display of pure grace! Our lovely ladies are bringing the sophisticated world of the Paseo de Narciso to life. 🇵🇭✨

This beautiful dance is a "Paseo" (which means to walk or stroll). Historically, it reflects the Spanish influence on Filipino culture, specifically the refined manners and poise of the Maria Clara era.

While typically a courtship dance, seeing it performed by an all-girls ensemble adds a special layer of sisterhood, poise, and collective beauty. It’s all about the subtle tilt of the head, the gentle sway of the long skirts, and the modest yet captivating movement of the flowers.

As they glide across the floor, you’ll be transported back to a time of grand ballrooms and moonlit plazas. Our ladies aren't just dancing; they are carrying the elegance of our ancestors into the future!

Let’s give a big round of applause for the grace and talent of our young ladies! 👏✨

Rest assured that 100% of the donations from you and the Grants community—accounted for by Ms. Gerlie Santos Hernandez and Ms. Cheenee Andrea Newberry—will be sent to the victims of calamities in the Philippines through the private sector, the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, and their congregations and affiliates.

Dear President Zabala,

I hope this email finds you well.

On behalf of the Filipino community in Grants City, NM, USA, I am writing to formally report the successful conclusion of our cultural presentation, "Bayanihan for a Cause," held this past December 12, 2025.

The event was a beautiful showcase of our heritage, featuring traditional dances, songs, theater arts, opm band, fashion show of traditional and festival costumes, and some art auctions as well performed by our Filipino community here. Through their performances, we sought to embody the spirit of Bayanihan—unity and cooperation—to support our brothers and sisters in the Philippines who are currently facing the aftermath of devastating floods and earthquakes.

We are honored to share that through the generosity of the Grants City community and our supporters, we have collected a total donation of P 61,500 in a current dollar to peso exchange rate.

It is our collective wish to offer these funds to the victims across the three major regions of the country: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Given Notre Dame University’s esteemed reputation for service and its established channels for disaster relief as Dr. Yuarata’s recommendations, we are hoping to partner with NDU to facilitate the distribution of these funds. We trust that NDU’s reach will ensure that this help safely reaches the most affected families across all three regions.

We would welcome the opportunity to meet with you or a designated representative at your earliest convenience before Christmas to formally turn over these proceeds and discuss the logistics of the distribution.

Get ready to dive into the rhythmic waters of Pasig! Today, we’re spotlighting one of the most playful and energetic Filipino folk dances: the Pasigin. 🇵🇭

Originating from the banks of the Pasig River, this dance is a tribute to our hardworking fishermen. The word Pasigin refers to the “sigin”—a small net used to catch fish and crustaceans. 🦐

But there’s a twist! This isn't just a dance about fishing; it’s a story of perseverance and fun. The dancers mimic the struggle of a fisherman trying to catch his bounty, dealing with a "broken" net, and finally celebrating a successful catch with the community.

Watch as our dancers bring the river to life. You’ll feel the breeze, hear the "splashes," and want to join in on the celebration!

The term "Bayanihan" is a foundational Filipino cultural concept rooted in the Tagalog word Bayan (community or nation), traditionally illustrated by the collective, selfless act of neighbors lifting and carrying an entire Bahay Kubo (nipa hut) to a new location, symbolizing unity and mutual assistance without expectation of reward.

This enduring Bayanihan Spirit—representing communal unity and cooperation—was powerfully activated and manifested by the Filipino community in Grants, New Mexico, when they first initiated this annual cultural event on December 6th, 2024.

The event is a meticulously curated presentation that showcases their rich traditions and heritage for the wider community; here, the spirit of teamwork is evident not only in the preparation but in the vibrant displays of dance (narrating regional histories through movement), song (expressing deep cultural emotion), authentic costumes (highlighting the artistry of Filipino textiles), and the sharing of traditional food (the ultimate expression of Filipino hospitality and fellowship).

This presentation is more than just a performance; it is a living tribute to the Filipino values of resilience, collaboration, and unwavering support, truly embodying the meaning of Bayanihan in the high desert of New Mexico.
