Happy Resurrection Day. Though Friday was crushing and brutal, and Saturday silent... The third day has come.
In search of her Savior...
The earth rumbles low beneath them as the disciples of Jesus sleep, hiding out in the upper room where the men had observed passover with Jesus just a few days before. They went to sleep uncertain, unsettled... Worried who the Pharisees might come for next. A few had been heard sobbing as one by one they all fell asleep.
Startled by the shaking, Mary Magdalene and several other women get up to go to the tomb.
Can you see the women rising early, gathering their spices and oils to properly prepare Jesus for his burial?
Can you hear their hushed tones as they whisper and pray together walking along the way to the garden tomb?
As they walk along the path approaching the tomb they see something odd through the fog and chill of the morning air... The stone has been rolled away. They pause a moment and consider that the Roman guards who'd been charged with the guarding the tomb were no where to be found.
They walk cautiously closer and find the tomb is empty. "They've taken him away!" Mary exclaims through tears.
Then the angel appears to remind them of Jesus' words to them and encourage them to tell the others.
But the women are confused... Nothing makes sense to them. They split up to go in search of the guards to find out where they should look for him.
Mary sees a man working in the garden not far from the tomb. Her heart has broken once again, and she is weeping. Sobbing as she approaches the man in disbelief that things just keep going from bad to worse.
"Abba, help me find Him please!" She whispers through her tears.
Can you see her holding her spices and oils, shaking as she stands before what she believes is a stranger in the garden?
Can you be her?
What is she feeling? Thinking? What would you do?
He looks up as she approaches, but in the blur of tears, grief, and confusion... She finds his face unfamiliar.
Then the man speaks to her, His tone is quiet, gentle and concerned. But still, unfamiliar, "Woman, why are you weeping?"
What an odd thing to ask, she thinks... I'm in a graveyard. Why wouldn't I be weeping?
The words come out with sobs as she gushes, "I'm looking for my master, my Lord, someone has taken him from the tomb where we laid
him. Please, sir, if you know will you tell me so I may go to Him?"
Then she hears that familiar voice, the voice of her deliverer and redeemer. Jesus...
"Mary..."
"Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to Him in Hebrew, “Rabboni!” (which means, Teacher). 17 Jesus said to her, “Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.’” 18 Mary Magdalene came and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord,” and that He had said these things to her."
