University of Southern Maine Bands USM Bands offer performance opportunities to music majors and non-majors.

With two concert ensembles and several chamber opportunities, any interested USM student can develop their musicianship and experience the excellence of the School of Music at USM.

USM Bands

USM Concert Band

The University Concert Band is a wind and percussion ensemble which is open to all University students through audition. The ensemble focuses on the fundamentals of ensemble performance dealing with a variety of literature. The University Concert Band performs at least one major concert per semester.

In addition, the concert band is featured each September in the annual "Old-Fashioned Outdoor Band Concert," for which the local community gathers On the Green at Corthell Hall. The outdoor band concert is the opening student ensemble performance of each academic year, and serves an important outreach function for the school, attracting hundreds of people from Gorham and the surrounding communities.
