DAY 30! The Arcadia Public Art Project would like to extend a big thanks to everyone who has followed our journey through the 30 Creative Actions Project! For our final post we want to share our design concept for the 2020 Arcadia Public Art Project to be completed post-Covid!

This artwork was designed for the Glenside Free Library, to be placed behind the sign at the intersections of S Keswick Ave and E Waverly Rd. We spent time this semester getting to know the wonderful residents of Glenside and what values they carry as a community. We discovered that it was important that our design have a “sense of place” in Glenside and reflect its history. In our research we discovered that this sight was once a stop on the old trolleyway that connected Glenside to surrounding communities. Because of this, we decided to use trolley headlights as a central element for the sculpture. The inspiration for this work comes from the desire to provide connection and activation. This artwork craves participation; it is looking for companions to sit, to read, to walk, to perform. In the same way that a headlight guides a trolley, this sculpture will provide a beacon to a place where community members can share space together.

We want to extend a special thank you to the Glenside Free Library for allowing us to design for their space. In addition, we want to thank all of the Glenside community members who have provided feedback and support to us through this process. Now it is your turn! Have some thoughts about this artwork? Send them our way! We will continue to provide updates through our social media once construction begins. In the meantime, we hope you stay safe and creative everyday

Hi everyone, it's Sarah for this week's final creative action theme, PUBLIC ART!
At the beginning of the semester, I learned how to brainstorm a public art idea and what steps to take to make it a reality. Over the past few weeks, I came up with my own public art sculpture and where it would be located. My public art sculpture would be located in Gettysburg, PA on The Rummel Farm to represent the horses that were killed during The Battle of Rummel Farm in the Civil War. Here are three angles of the final sculpture design called "Remembering the Rummel Horses."

Hi everyone! It's Nisha and this is the piece I've been working on for this week's theme of PUBLIC ART. Pennypacker park is a place where people go to escape their everyday lives and immerse themselves in nature. Many earth artists such as Nils Udo and Andy Goldsworthy work with what is provided in the environment and create art with these elements. This led me to creating this abstract nest, which represents comfort and relaxation. This piece is completely ephemeral, leading it to decay naturally. I have also included my sketches and thought process behind this sculpture. I hope this inspires you to look into earth art and think about public art in another way!

Hey everyone, Tre’ here back with this week's theme, like said before, is the theme of public art! I chose the Kona Surf Shop in Wildwood NJ for the piece I made. My inspiration came from the already existing murals scattered throughout Wildwood already and just how much they add to an area. I encourage everyone, if they are bored, to create something for an area of choice that you love!

Hi everyone Lexie here. This week’s theme is PUBLIC ART. The location I chose was Creep Records in Philadelphia. I designed this piece for the window outside the store. I was inspired by Pop Artists for this piece (which inspired the lettering). I cut up a blank CD and painted them black to make a record (2 coats needed). I then added the final touch by adding spatter paint. I hope this encourages you to pick a public place you love and make your own public art piece for it and don’t forget to tag us in it!

A warm hello from the Arcadia Public Art Team! We hope that you have had a safe and creative week. We are kicking off week 5 of our 30 Day Creative Actions Challenge with images from some of our favorite pieces of public art! This will be our final week of Creative Actions and to celebrate our team will be sharing their own personal project! Individually, each of us chose a location and after researching its history and gathering inspiration from other pieces of public art, we each designed our own piece of public art for the space. We are very excited to share these projects with you and hope you are inspired to imagine new public art for your own community!

This week’s theme is PUBLIC ART.

Sarah here! Today's LIGHT creative action is a pebble designed candle holder! Adding decorative pebbles to a glass candle holder allows light to shine out in a colorful way.🕯

Here are the steps to make yours!
1. Pick out glass pebbles you want to hot glue to your candle holder. I laid out a design for mine which used cool tones and specific shapes.
2. Hot glue pebbles onto candle holder.
3. Insert a small candle into the candle holder
4. Light and enjoy!😁
