Dance has the power to make a difference. 💙

At this year’s Power of Dance competition, our dancers performed in honor of a member of our Glen Dance Studio family whose uncle passed away from lung cancer in 2018.

Their performance earned a $500 donation to the Lung Cancer Foundation of America, and Kim matched the amount, bringing our total contribution to $1,000.

We are so proud of our dancers for using their passion and artistry to support such an important cause. 💜

✨Our next Glen Dance Legacy family is Lauren Mileo (DeMaria) and her niece Natalie! ✨

Lauren is one of the original members of our company!

Lauren says
“My name is Lauren Mileo (formally Lauren DeMaria). After leaving GDS, I attended ballet school in Manhattan (The Joffrey Ballet School and The School at Steps on Broadway). After college, I danced professionally for a year with Eglevsky Ballet and New York Theatre Ballet. I then transitioned to becoming a doctor and I am currently an oculoplastic surgeon on Long Island.
GDS truly shaped me into the individual I am today. All my favorite memories from childhood come from my time at GDS. I do not think I would be where I am today without being a part of this family. Having my niece perform at her first GDS recital brings me immense joy and pride. I cannot wait to see the dancer and the girl she becomes with the help of the GDS crew!”

🎉✨ Congratulations to our June Student of the Month, Madelyn! ✨🎉

Madelyn has been dancing at Glen Dance Studio for 5 years and is a 4th grader at Connolly Elementary School! 🌟 Her favorite style of dance is Hip Hop 🕺💥 and she brings so much energy and enthusiasm to every class!

When she’s not dancing, Madelyn loves arts & crafts 🎨, Girl Scouts 🍪, playing the trumpet 🎺, and singing 🎤. This year, she participated in NYSSMA for the very first time and earned an Outstanding rating for singing! 👏🌟

Madelyn says:
💜 “I love that dance helps me express myself and I find it very fun! I love that dance challenges me to learn new movements and dance routines. It motivates me to work hard and try my best! Dance also allows me to be myself. I love all the teachers at Glen Dance Studio. They are very nice and motivate me to set high goals (and meet them).”

Ms. Victoria says:

✨Senior Spotlight on Sylvia Gao✨
Sylvia goes to North Shore High School, where she is a part of multiple honor societies including National Honor Society for the Dance Arts. Sylvia has been dancing at Glen Dance for 10 years and she is a teacher intern and a member of our Elite Company. In the fall Sylvia will be going to Cornell University to study Human Development.

Sylvia Says
“Picking a single best memory is merely impossible, but one that comes to mind is our trip to Rome. From the moment the plane landed, all I could feel was complete and utter gratitude. Gratitude for everyone in my life who made this trip possible, and gratitude for Glen Dance Studio for giving me such an extraordinary opportunity. Performing in Italy and exploring the cities with my best friends is something I will cherish forever. I will absolutely miss the thrill of performing on stage and competing, but what I will miss the most are the moments that happen backstage and in the studio. Whether it's playing charades in tap, or talking about our days in jazz, not a week goes by where I am not having a good time at dance. Being able to block out the rest of the world and just dance with my friends is an experience only dancers would understand, and one that I will miss dearly.Dance has taught me more than just how to turn and leap. It has taught me the importance of hard work and perseverance, and to never shy away from a challenge. Dance has made me the person I am today by helping me gain confidence not only within the studio, but in all other aspects of my life. The friendships I have made through dance are invaluable and are ones that I know will exceed my time at Glen Dance. I would like to thank Ms. Kim for always pushing me to be the best dancer I can be, Ms. Angela for being the one that I can always turn to, Ms. Teri for helping me gain confidence in my dancing, Ms. Ruthi for always making me laugh, and Ms. Emilia, Ms. Amanda, and Ms. Alex for helping me become the dancer I am today. I would also like to thank Christine for always being my biggest supporter!”

✨Our next Glen Dance Legacy Family is Ms Kathleen and her nieces Reagan, Clare and Nora!✨

Ms Kathleen says
While at Glen Dance studio, I had the incredible opportunity of auditioning and making the Rockette Training program at 17 years old. After graduation, I was a member of my Dance team at Marist College. While there, I competed at NDA, performed at NCAA events, ESPN, and even traveled to Ireland with our basketball team!

Glen Dance gave me a foundation that opened the door to incredible opportunities, but it also helped shape who I am. It built my confidence, taught me discipline, and gave me friendships that have lasted a lifetime.
Now, having the opportunity to teach there and help provide those same experiences for the next generation is incredibly rewarding. Watching dancers grow not only as performers but also as confident young adults is one of the most fulfilling parts of what I do.
It has been especially meaningful to witness this growth in my own nieces. I still remember the tears during their first year, when they were nervous and afraid to step on stage. Now, seeing them smile with pride after remembering an entire routine and performing with confidence is truly amazing. Being able to watch that transformation firsthand is something I cherish.

✨Senior Spotlight on Sophia Ancona✨
Sophia goes to North Shore High School, she has been dancing at Glen Dance for 15 years and is a member of our Senior Company. In the fall Sophi will be attending Georgetown University to study Political Science.
Sophia says

“I will miss the relationships I have built with the petite girls the most. When I watch them dance on stage at competition, I am filled with so much joy. I have loved to see them grow and build so much confidence as dancers. I feel like they are my little sisters but I am so excited to come back and watch them dance during my breaks from college. I especially will miss my Cami, she truly is such an amazing dancer with the best heart and I can't wait for her to continue to show everyone how amazing she is. Dance has made me more disciplined, happier, and stronger. While dance can get hard and there are moments when you can feel discouraged, the friendships and the teachers help you get through anything. I am pushed to persevere, rely on friends, but also be independent.
Glen Dance has been a place where I can be myself and escape from the outside world. When the music goes on and I can dance, I am able to relax and enjoy myself. I also have made so many life long friends and built great relationships. I still keep in contact with people that graduated before me and I know I will continue talking to everyone at the studio now. It is more than just dance but it is a place that makes me feel comfortable and secure.”
