I’ve been in a bit of a photography slump lately, so I began creating something to help me look at the world differently again.

Seeing Differently is a collection of 12 creative field cards for photographers—quiet invitations to notice overlooked details, follow the light, embrace strange weather, break familiar habits, and begin with a feeling.

The cards feature some of my photographs that rarely find their way into the world, which made creating this especially meaningful—and surprisingly fun.

They’re now available as printable cards and a phone-friendly edition on Etsy:

**Within the Pattern**

Among the crossing lines, one quiet presence emerged.

For a moment, the boundaries between the individual and the herd seemed to disappear—each belonging to the same pattern, yet carrying a spirit entirely its own.

Perhaps belonging does not require us to lose ourselves.

Perhaps it simply reminds us that we were never truly separate.

There are moments you don’t forget.

This was one of them.

A quiet face-to-face encounter with a bison — close enough to feel the weight of the moment, far enough to respect it.

“Hello!” is part of my Dream World Images collection.

That’s enough. I would not stuff it with hashtags, a sales pitch, or a long explanation.

If you want it a little more poetic, I’d go with:

There are moments you don’t forget.

For a few seconds, the rest of the world seemed to disappear and it was just me and this magnificent animal looking back.

Some encounters become photographs. Others become memories.

“Hello!” — Dream World Images.

**What the Earth Remembers**

Up close, the skin became a landscape—marked by time, survival, and stories beyond my knowing.

But it was the eye that held me.

Strength and vulnerability existed there together, reminding me that the ancient world is not entirely gone. Sometimes it is still looking back at us.

A small win I’m grateful to share.

My infrared photograph, Elegy in Shadow and Spice, was selected for TCG Gallery’s international exhibition, Memory: What Remains.

I made this photograph while wandering through Santa Fe with my wife, Tracey. Removing the familiar red of the dried chilis revealed something quieter—a study of texture, time, and what remains after color disappears.

It feels especially meaningful to see the image placed within the exhibition’s “Afterimages” collection.

When the Wild Looks Back

I was watching this solitary giraffe on the horizon when, for a moment, the gaze was returned.

There was no movement toward one another—only a quiet recognition across the distance.

Sometimes the wild does more than allow us to see it.

Sometimes it sees us, too.

**A Quiet Correspondence**

For a brief moment, a solitary tree and a passing cloud seemed to acknowledge one another across the open sky.

Nothing moved between them. Nothing needed to.

Perhaps some connections are felt most deeply in the silence.

Divine Summit

Above the Grand Teton near Jackson Hole, Wyoming, a jet’s contrail pierced the luminous sky like an arrow of light.

As sunlight moved around the mountain, the peak became a dark altar beneath a golden glow, and the ordinary contrail seemed to mark a pathway between earth and sky. For a moment, the landscape felt like one of those thin places where the physical and spiritual worlds draw close.

This is what I hope to find when I photograph—not simply a beautiful place, but the instant when familiar reality shifts into something deeper.

Divine Summit is part of my Realm of Dreams collection and the Dream World Images Signature Collection.

Floating Mountains

Along the Bush Bay Trail, often called the Narnia Trail, near Port Dolomite, Michigan, the scattered rocks seemed to float in an almost endless white space. The movement of the Great Lakes water softened into a quiet veil, creating a scene that feels like a natural Zen garden.

There is a stillness here that invites me to pause and breathe, to let time slow down, and to look again at the familiar world.

Part of my Dream World Images Signature Collection.
