The story behind “The Little Cheerleader” 🖤🐦✨

This is the third installment in my intimate miniature songbird collection, celebrating backyard nature and treasured family memories.

The original was painted on a tiny 4”x4” canvas using heavy-body acrylics. I wanted to capture the famously bold, curious, and cheerful personality of the Black-Capped Chickadee—one of nature’s most joyful backyard visitors.

The dream that finished “The Guardian” 🦌✨

Swipe through to see the exact moment I almost gave up on this piece.

When I was painting this stag for my Sanctuary Series, I hit a massive creative wall. No matter how many times I tried to sketch, layer, or render the antlers, they just felt completely wrong.

In a moment of pure frustration, I did something terrifying—I completely erased them (you can still see the ghost lines on Slide 3!).

That night, I went to sleep stressed. But while I was sleeping, the solution came to me in a vivid dream. I woke up knowing exactly how the light needed to catch the ridges and how the structure had to curve to fit the deep forest background. I went straight to the canvas, and “The Guardian” was finally born.

Sometimes the art knows what it wants to be before the artist does.

Say hello to “The Golden Joy” from my Jay Bird Series. 🎨✨

This miniature collection of five paintings is a special nod to my Baltimore roots and a lifelong nickname given by my mother: “Jay Bird.”

I loved scaling down my brushwork to capture this American Goldfinch against a rich forest green background.
