Happy HDJD South Germantown Bike Park community! We did a little dawn patrol dig session this morning. Dirt jump 1 just wasn’t right, and the middle line needed some repairs. So, we dropped a lot of dirt on the whole face and roughed it in with the machine. We will be back this evening to do the hand shaping, and a little bit of riding. If you’d like to join us, Todd should be there around 5:30. Lend a hand if you can. He will have some SSL forms as well. Oh, and we took out the last roller on the return line. It was holding too much water. The grass is growing back as well!! Things are looking great for the Fall riding season.

MoCo Epic Family Fun Day 2022 was off the chain!
The MoCo Trail Crew showed up in force to get the park ready for the Epic. Brian, a volunteer, gave Todd a master class on shaping which was greatly appreciated. Together, the team knocked out a ton of work on Friday. The park hasn’t looked this good in a while. We are excited about Family Fun Day at the 2022 MoCo Epic. The crew will be running all the bike park events today. Come on out and join us!
Huge thanks to Ma, Trevor and Austin (from the Trail Crew) for their help last night. Ma and Trevor worked on a couple berms while Austin removed and folded all the tarps. Their efforts had a big impact on our “to do” list. We will be back at it all day today. Come on out and lend a hand if you can.
We are digging TONIGHT! We can’t run the machine due to the soft ground so we are going old school. Todd prepped a couple berms last night by removing the grass to get to the dirt that used to be on the berm. He moved it from the bottom, to the top and gave a good pat. We need to do that on a couple more. We also need to remove the tarps now that the rain has stopped. We could REALLY use some help tonight (starting at 5:30) and all day tomorrow. SSL hours for the kids that need them. Let’s get the park looking good for the MoCo Epic happening this weekend.
At some point, hopefully soon, the rain will end. When it does, the park will need time to dry, and be repaired. The sun is due to make an appearance in the next day or two. When it does, PLEASE don’t rush to the park to ride. The ground will be too soft to do anything. We might try to dig tomorrow if conditions allow. But, we don’t want to make the situation worse either. Thanks for your cooperation.

Bike racks, berms and rebuilding jumps. That's what we are up to today. Todd remembered how to use a shovel and with the help of Roy Biv got jump 1 looking a bit more like jump 1 last night. He scrapped, top coated and roughed in a few berms this morning before work. They will need some hand finishing before the pump track is ridable. So, stick to the other features while we work on that.
Construction is moving along nicely! The parking lot and access road are almost done. The beginner flow line should be rolling by the end of the day. And we added a rock drop to the drop zone! The Trail Crew is rocking right now. However, we need YOUR a help. First, please DO NOT remove the orange construction fencing so you can ride the entire intermediate flow line. You will kill the fresh sod. Cut out one jump early. Second, please help us clean up all the rocks popping up all over the place. Grab a rake, a shovel and wheelbarrow and dump the rocks at the bottom of the hill into the trees. This is YOUR park. We need your help in maintaining it. Thanks!
Mother Nature moved in a little earlier than expected and cut our work session short. But, we did get a few things done before the much needed rain. The beginner start hill is finished, the first jump is set, we created a little water garden depression by the berm, and added dirt to the last jump. That’s just in the beginner flow line. We added dirt to jump 2 on the intermediate line, and got some rollers built on the big line. Not bad for a couple hours.
Happy Hump Day Jump Day SGBP community! The Trail Crew will be out working at the park the next couple of days. We will be working on a bit of everything. The intermediate and beginner flow lines, fixing ruts and storm damage, and adding dirt to rollers and berms. Sections of the park will be closed while this is happening. We are sorry for the inconvenience. However, you will love the results. We also have a big work day scheduled for Sunday October 2nd at 12 noon. Please lend a hand if you can!

The contractor is moving along with the entrance and parking lot. We are beyond excited! One request, PLEASE give them room to work. We witnessed kids riding the intermediate flow line as equipment was trying to move dirt around. Avoid that flow line if they are running equipment. You’ll be safer and they will get done more quickly.
IT'S HAPPENING!!
Construction for vehicle access and parking begins this week. The park will remain open. However, please be aware that contractors will be on site with heavy machinery. Use a LOT of caution and give them space to work. This has been a LONG time in the making and we couldn't be happier.

Now that the intermediate and alt lines are rolling, it’s time to get moving on the beginner line. This one is going to take a little longer to finish. Lots on our plate right now. So, don’t ask when it’ll be done. We will let you know.

Digging has its privileges! Theodore got the first full pull on the new flow line after he and Todd cleaned up the last two jumps. He earned some SSL hours in the process. 4 looks great, 5 could use some more hand shaping. But, they roll and could use some tires now. Get on it! 🤙
The recent grading made a huge difference in the parks ability to shed water. It’s in better shape than expected. So good that we are thinking about doing some digging and riding this evening. Anyone interested in helping?

Please don’t let the sun that JUST popped out fool you. The bike park is too wet to ride today. Between the torrential rains last night, and the cell that rolled through this morning, we need a solid day, maybe more, to dry out. IF you visit the park, PLEASE limit your activity to the all weather pump track and the plastic skills obstacles. Anything made of dirt will be too wet to ride. You will damage the surface and we will need to use our limited resources to repair the damage.
No digging, or riding, tonight. Weather is insane right now.
We love the smell of the SK500 in the morning! Smells like.......jumping. We are looking at the forecast and hope to dig this evening. Fingers crossed. Notice that thing on its back. Yeah, that’s a little surprise for the wee ones.
Post 2 of 2, the good news. The Trail Crew upgraded the wall ride alt line kicker to a 5 footer! It’s been set in place and the landing should be roughed in today. That will give us PLENTY to work on tomorrow evening. If you want to get first tracks on this or the intermediate flow line, join us Wednesday evening for our Hump Day Jump Day dig and ride session.
Post 1of 2, the bad news. We make tools available for you, the riding community, to take a little ownership of the park. No dig, no ride and all that. We are super stoked for all the new stuff being added to the park, and hope you are as well. So, it’s really disappointing to see something like this when we show up to work. If you know the person who did this, or you see someone acting ignorant with the tools, say something. Either to them or to us. This kind of behavior won’t be tolerated.
The last two kickers are in place and the landings have been roughed in. The Trail Crew will be working on the alt line and start hill tomorrow. We will be hand shaping and flow checking Wednesday evening. So come on out on Hump Day Jump Day to get your dig and ride on.

We are digging! Todd will be there at 4:30 to knock out some work. Hoping the rain holds off like last night. The new line might not be ready for flow checks, but, everything else is riding.
The new flow line is CLOSED. Last nights rain overwhelmed the fresh dirt and will need time to dry. The MoCo Trail Crew can’t run their machines on the soft ground either. So, the work is on hold until things firm up. The rest of the park needs time to dry as well. But, should be rideable later today if we get enough sun and no rain. PLEASE respect these closures!!

View from the start hill. It’s getting there. The Trail Crew rolled out early due to the heat. They will be back in the morning. We will be out there this evening starting at 5:30 to hand shape and clean things up.
Day two of the build. Truckloads of dirt are still getting delivered, jump 1 and 4 are set in position, more dirt has been added to the whale tail exit berm, and the main berm is getting shaped. All done by 9:30 in the morning. It’s going to be another productive day!

Hey all, just an FYI that if you head to the bike park this coming weekend you may find a few (hundred) more people than normal out there as South Germantown Cyclocross - a 2021 Sportif 'Cross Cup Series Event will be taking place.
On Saturday we'll be building the race course and then holding a women's pre-ride clinic from 3:00pm till dark. On Sunday, November 7 we'll have racing going on from 8:25am through 3:45pm.

Riders of all ages can hone their bike handling skills that will translate into safer riding in a variety of situations. The tracks are appropriate for kids on scoot bikes all the way up to seasoned veterans. Located along the Hoyles Mill Trail in the South Germantown Recreational Park, the track is free, and open to the public for free from dawn until dusk. GPS coordinates: 39.147677,-77.312632 The volunteers that maintain this facility do not post closures due to wet or muddy conditions. We ask our visitors to use your best judgement when enjoying the park. Please DO NOT ride when wet and muddy. If you are making ruts on the track, you are damaging the surface, and creating more work for the volunteers. Also, please keep your children from running on the berms and jumps. This damages the surface as well. Please ride responsibly and always wear a helmet.
