"My great-grandmother on my mother's side was a quilter, so I've incorporated a lot of her quilts that I have inherited into my work over the years. Embedded in the quilts are images of Juneteenth celebrations in the past."

Joachim West draws inspiration from historical and contemporary references, such as overpopulation, social distancing, and more. Through these works, West juxtaposes the sentiments of being walked all over and standing on the shoulders of those who came before us.
