Things that sound guys deal with:
I discovered that the firmware on my newest wireless mics needed to be updated. However, it turns out I had to update them by holding the mic up to the IR sensor in just the right place between the mic and the receiver. The update for each mic (5 of them) was taking 15-20 minutes to update, with me having to hold the mic in just the right spot the entire time for it to work.
Luckily…I found the perfect bungee cable to take care of that!

Saturday was another date on the “Worn Out Sneakers” tour (my name, not the band’s!) for DAS at Rose Park in CoMo. New (to the park) PA in place, EV tops and subs. Combine that with a substantial crowd, and mixing is fun again! 😎

Just some thoughts. Had a sound gig for a private event on a Tuesday night. The description was for a nice big stage, and a PA rig that we could use, that sounded fine as described over the phone. Let’s just say that it was a bit more challenging than I expected.

I’ve heard house sound people dog guest engineers bringing their own console, etc., but when you’re on a random “sound rig of the day”, you will sometimes have trouble making your band sound as good as you can. It can be very frustrating. That said….You STILL have to be courteous, kind to the providers, and deal with the challenges without complaints. If you go all in with “grumpy old sound man”, it doesn’t represent your band very well.

Today’s show was outdoors at the McBaine MKT for Pedaler’s Jamboree. We had a noon start with The Swampweed Cajun Band....

Nice little gig tonight. Kicking off Pedaler’s Jamboree 2026 in Rocheport with an intimate acoustic show by the duo “Rambler Kane”. The crowd was small but they were into it and enjoying every song!

The RCFs by themselves were overkill for this small room, but being able to handle down to 50hz (especially at half volume) made the gig a lot of fun. Thanks to Pat and Sushi for being so pleasant to work with! Me? I’m back at Pedaler’s on Sunday, for a noon show in McBaine.
