After seeing the Red Hot Chili Peppers in San Jose in the summer of 2022, I was inspired and after returning home to Fresno, I picked up my acoustic guitar. I struck a chord and from that sprung the whole song, chords, progression, then lyrics and melody to “Bridge of Life”.

Dolly Parton leaves behind a legacy in Fresno County that extends well beyond music.

The country music icon and philanthropist died Tuesday at 80. Through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, more than 100,000 free books have been mailed to 13,000 Fresno County children since the first local shipments went out in March 2025.

The local effort brought together the State of California, First 5 Fresno County, Lighthouse for Children, Valley Children’s Healthcare and community supporters. Nearly 24% of enrolled children live in rural communities, while about 20% receive bilingual Spanish collections.

The program continues serving local families, carrying forward a mission inspired by Parton’s father and his struggles with literacy.

I just heard the very sad news about Dolly Parton. I so very much enjoyed working with her on her ‘Rockstar’ record and talking with her. A true timeless legend she will always be.

Beloved television star and singer Shelley Fabares, known for The Donna Reed Show and Coach, has died at the age of 82.

Fabares rose to fame as a teenager playing daughter Mary Stone in The Donna Reed show from 1958 to 1963. She scored a Billboard No. 1 hit single in 1962 with the iconic pop ballad "Johnny Angel". She also co-starred as Elvis's leading lady in three major 1960s films. During the 1980s, Shelley Fabares maintained a steady presence on television, starring in One Day at a Time and Coach.

Her cause of death was not officially disclosed, though family statements mentioned she passed following a brief illness. R.I.P. 🙏
