Celebrating
On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas, with the news that the more than 250,000 enslaved Black people in the state were free by executive decree. This day came to be known as Juneteenth by the newly freed people in Texas.
Today, we reflect on the past, recognize the progress made and commit to the work still ahead.
Reminder: Stafford County Government administrative offices will be closed today, but our Emergency Communication Center remains ready to field emergency calls and our deputies will continue patrolling the county.
