More than 120 patrons stayed following the May 30 matinee performance of Jesus Christ Superstar for Studio Tenn’s first Beyond the Stage conversation.
Hosted by Studio Tenn Executive Director Mark Fleischer and featuring Dr. Josh Graves, Senior Minister of Otter Creek Church, and Rabbi Philip “Flip” Rice of Congregation Micah, the discussion explored themes and questions inspired by the production while also reaching beyond the musical itself. Drawing from both Christian and Jewish traditions, the conversation touched on faith, storytelling, the power of theatre, and its role in our lives and communities.
Audience members along with some members of the cast contributed thoughtful questions and reflections, creating an afternoon marked by curiosity, openness, and genuine dialogue.
The gathering also introduced a broader vision for audience engagement at Studio Tenn—one that embraces theatre not simply as a performance to be experienced, but as a catalyst for reflection, conversation, and community.
This was our first Beyond the Stage conversation, but it certainly won’t be our last. Look for more opportunities to engage with the ideas and themes behind our shows throughout the upcoming 2026/27 season.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this inaugural conversation such a meaningful experience.
If you joined us on Saturday, we’d love to hear from you. What idea, question, or reflection from the conversation has stayed with you?
