What a beautiful day to have lunch outside!! My friend, Que, brought the bubbly - V***e du Vernay Ice Rosé Demi-Sec.
I didn’t realize it was a Demi-Sec until I tried it. I just assumed it was a Brut. Most sparkling wines are Brut because most people prefer less sweetness in their sparkling wines. The labels on sparkling wines can be confusing so here’s a little cheat sheet for you:
Brut Nature = 0-3g (sugar)/L
Extra Brut = 0-6g
Brut = 0-12g (most popular)
Extra Dry = 12-17
Sec (Dry) = 17-23g
Demi-Sec = 32-50g
Doux (sweet) = 50+g
“Brut” means raw so that does make sense because very little sugar is added to the wine. This process is called “dosage” and it’s the final touch before corking. But as you can see, sec (dry) is misleading. Ah! The French 🇫🇷!
The wine was delicious with notes of 🍒, 🍓 and raspberry. I think it would have been better with a dessert or as an apéritif but I am not going to turn down a great wine with a great friend! Would you?!?
