OFFICIAL UPDATE AND ANNOUNCEMENT (September 7, 2016): Unfortunately, there will not be a Southern Fried Swing this year, nor is one being planned for coming years.

A NOTE FROM MARCUS
Although Southern Fried Swing has always been supported by a number of volunteers, it has been mostly a personal undertaking of mine, under the name of the local dance studio I own (Momentum Dance Concepts). That means that I am always financially responsible for the event, regardless of attendance. It has been my hope since we started the event in 2009 that the event could support itself without the need for donations and fundraising activities, but that has not been the case. Many scene leaders have indicated that this is often the case for events like SFS.
In summary, the decision to discontinue the event for now is largely a decision to alleviate the personal and financial stress that the event brings.
Despite this difficult decision, I am so very thankful for all six years of Southern Fried Swing. I couldn't be more proud of our list of instructors, entertainers, volunteers, and attendees. Mostly, I have enjoyed the atmosphere and friendship. There's nothing like watching a floor full of people having a great time and swinging out.
Until we meet again, I wish you all the very best, and encourage each of you to be involved in your local scene in whatever way possible. Surely, this dance we love wouldn't survive without your personal interest and dedication. If I can be of any help to any of you in terms of dance education or event planning, I'm glad to share what SFS has taught me.
Again, thank you for all your help and support and kindnesses over the years, and I hope to see you soon.
