The 2026 Sanibel Island Writers Conference is coming back to the island--live and in person!

Dates are November 5-7.

Location: BIG ARTS & Sanibel Island Public Library.

The lineup and schedule are still taking shape, but we'll be posting updates ASAP. Keep checking back for details.

Sanibel legend, Joe Pacheco, passed away on February 2 at the age of 95. Joe was longtime friend and supporter of the conference, and we will miss him something fierce. Condolences to his friends and family during this difficult time. May the many poems he wrote keep his voice and memory alive for years to come.

Joseph Pacheco, of Sanibel Island, died of natural causes on February 2, 2026. He was 95 years old. Born on July 21, 1930, on the Lower East Side of New York City, Joe was a proud “Nuyorican” and the first Puerto Rican NYC district school superintendent.
