A work in progress photo popped up on my phone recently and I was reminded of a bunch of work that’s occupying storage space yet hasn’t seen the light of day. This set of three florals were created last fall during my artist residency at Kestrel Fields Studio for a nursery art challenge. Originally the piece in the center was an attempt to make holiday florals, but it felt more like a flower whirling in the breeze than the festive spirit I was after. So I moved onto the piece on the left and enjoyed how the two pieces felt like they were swaying to a gentle beat — perhaps a nursery lullaby. The light at is incredible, and I captured a bunch of images of the final work just before the sun was setting and wafting onto my work space with really lovely shadows. I created the third piece back in my studio after I had finished my residency, which completed the trio of boogieing botanicals (in hindsight, I missed out on this title!).

At the beginning of this year, I got the great news that they were chosen as Minted editor’s picks! Creating six colorways for each piece — eighteen pieces total — was a dreamy labor of love and also tested the limits of my laptop capacity. But I wanted to provide a rainbow of hues to maximize the ability to mix and match them. They’re titled dancing florals 1, 2 and 3 and available in a range of sizes in my Minted store. 🌈🌺💃

Ta-da!! Here she is! I envisioned the pair as dreamy depictions of the Colorado mountains with the layered hues capturing the light as the ridges recede into the horizon. All of the torn pieces have a sense of order while flowing organically. I’m feeling loads of gratitude for the beautiful place we live and the support of wonderful people like Debbie and Patrick. ✨

For nearly six months, I’ve been working on the biggest pieces I’ve ever created and I’m incredibly proud and excited to share a peek into the process before the final reveal. I take on very few commissions because I’m really lucky to be busy with other work. But when Debbie reached out to me at the end of last year, I appreciated that she was able to articulate what she enjoyed about my work, was looking for a punch of art on a large wall in their home, and loved the idea of supporting a local female artist. Win-win-win!

Material constraints — and perhaps a healthy dose of fear — keeps me working small, but she had taped off an approximately 70”x30” space and the scale was perfect. After working through a bunch of different potential options with pricing, we narrowed in on working with a 60”x30” wood-cradled panel, a substrate I love working with for original collages. Then I created a handful of loose, small-scale composition and color palette options and we settled into a sweeping torn tissue layout that incorporated natural hues to complement their home, but also felt rooted in Colorado mountain views and captured their new home state after moving from Seattle to Fort Collins.

Unfortunately shipping and material issues thwarted that plan (at least if we wanted the materials in a reasonable time frame), so we pivoted to two 30”x30” panels which ended up bringing another level of dynamism to the work. The progress images I’ve shared move backwards in time to show where we started and then move from small scale to the real deal. Having a background in architecture and environmental graphic design really helped me tackle the “sketch” phase at a reduced scale to create the iterative layouts on 11”x17” sheets of paper. And then when I moved into the larger pieces, I had a good road map to scale up.

I delivered the pieces two weeks ago and was both extremely happy with the results but also super excited to reveal them in person and see my excitement mirrored back. My heart goes into everything I create, and it was special to see these two pieces that lived in my brain and on my work table move to their new home with Debbie and Patrick. Thank you both!! 🫶🏻

Earlier in the year, this painted pair titled “chromatic dream” 1 and 2 launched exclusively with and I’m finally making them insta official. At the beginning of February, I took only one in-progress photo of the long canvas after meditatively layering imperfect stroke after stroke over the course of many days. The rainbow of hues was intended to be a blue version of my “land wires” piece I created one year prior in the winter of 2024. If I didn’t have a deadline, I’d likely keep that canvas out on my work table and add lines of color here and there whenever I’m working and deem her perpetually in progress. But thankfully I stopped and scanned the canvas into multiple separate pieces and these two portraits emerged as the vibrant actualizations of my own dreams of swimming in a river of color.

Fun fact: that oblong canvas had layers of drawing and painting dating back to 2001-ish, but I never liked the work I had created, yet I lugged the unfinished canvas back and forth across the country a few times and now I am finally happy where she’s landed. 🌈☺️

Here’s another glimpse at some of my 2025 card designs available exclusively with !! After spending a giant portion of the year immersed in holiday designing, this time of the year it’s fun to document and reflect upon all of the work that made it to the finish line. Soon enough I’ll dive back in, but for now, I’m shifting gears and slowing down to enjoy the current season with family and friends. 💗

Next up, a playful plaid design available exclusively titled “festive checked plaid”. Strips of tissue paper are woven together by hand to create the textural plaid background that’s complimented by fully customizable minimal type.

Funny fact, I have containers of holiday candy to use for holiday flat lays, like the gum drops here, which unfortunately are stale at this point. But it never fails to entice my boys to ask about once a day when my holiday prop bin is out if they can have some of the candy and I get to explain for the many-th time that it wouldn’t taste great and would likely break their teeth…but still works for stationery photography! 🤭
