In early 1955, Sam Gordon and his associate Abe Harris opened the German-style restaurant Sam's Hof Brau at 17th and J. By the 1980s, night manager Bob McCook was bringing in blues jam sessions with musicians like Robert Nakashima, Arbess Williams, and Luke Esposito. One regular for 9 pm on Sundays blues was John Heartsman, shown here playing at Sam's in July of 1987.

Born in 1937, Heartsman was well known in the local and international blues music scene. Eventually settling in Sacramento after playing on numerous records both as a solo artist and as part of bands, Heartsman participated in the Sacramento Blues Festival for many years as well as becoming a staple at Sam's. During this time, Heartsman even released an album called Sacramento. He played guitar, bass, piano, and flute. Heartsman died in late 1996.

Dave will be tellin' SACRAMENTO stories and playing music from an earlier golden age of Sacramento Blues- the 1970s!! Special guest co-host, Roderiguez ( who does his own blues and roots music show called 'Nine Volt Heart"on KDRT !

Then, there is an 11th hour notification about Eden Brent playing the PowerHouse of Blues THIS Sunday!
