Thanks to New River Valley Community Services for joining us at Mountain Valor Fest! We appreciate all mental health providers who can show that veterans and their families have the ability to pick an organization that best fits their needs, whatever those may be.

Thanks to the Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc VA7 chapter out of Martinsville for joining us! This org is a great group of moms of military members trying to support their loved ones - and each other. Thanks for joining us this year!

The closing portion of Mountain Valor Fest is the flag retirement ceremony to honor those lost on 9/11 and through the wars that followed.

We were grateful to have our presenting sponsor for the third year in a row participate. BAE Systems HR Senior Director Pierre Franco, who served in the U.S. Army, cut a stripe from a worn American flag as part of the ceremony.

After the flag is cut into pieces, each piece is ceremoniously laid in the fire. Some participants salute, some whisper the name of a friend lost in the war, and some just hope the pain of loss fades. Remembering our fallen is the main part of Mountain Valor Fest - reminding those of us still grieving we are not alone.

Our absolute favorite part of Mountain Valor Fest this year? On top being a major sponsor of MVF 2026 itself, Appalachian Power Foundation announced Mountain Valor was awarded a $30,000 grant to help us reach our rural veterans and their families where they are - at libraries, community centers, coffee shops or even their homes.

We are so grateful that not only do they understand why our mission matters, they are also willing to step in and ensure we have the stability needed to continue serving our veterans. Thank you Appalachian Power Foundation!

Our favorite thing about the folks who come to Mountain Valor Fest is they all share one goal: supporting our local veterans through action. We’ll see you all again next year!

Thank you to all of our volunteers, vendors and resources who came out in spite of the rain! Despite the weather - we still had more resources on hand to help our veterans and their families than ever before.

Whew, we’re all in recovery mode after such a great event! Attendance count is in:

109 veterans
30 spouses
142 civilians
65 kids

Not bad for a day predicted to be utterly miserable! For those of you who came out, thanks for making the effort in spite of forecasts. Let us know what other resources you’d like to have next year!

Honored to have U.S. Senator Tim Kaine’s
Regional Director Charlie come out for Mountain Valor Fest to hear directly from veterans about their issues. Charlie is another great resource for veterans or their families who feel like their issues have been ignored.

Honored to have Ambler from Congressman Morgan Griffith’s office on hand to assist veterans whose issues need to be raised to that level. Either the Congressman or a member of his staff - or both - have attended Mountain Valor Fest every year to hear directly from veterans and their families about the issues that impact them.
