I pace. I overthink. I forget something at almost every project… but somehow the job always gets done. 🤍

POV you need constant inspiration while you work

Today I painted my first large commercial windows.

The scene wasn’t exactly glamorous. 😂 I’ve been recovering from a migraine and nausea most of the day and wondered more than once if I was going to make it through.

I couldn’t have done it alone. Joshua Acey is an absolute rockstar, and I’m blessed beyond measure to have him in my corner. He worked alongside me the entire time and probably put down more paint than I did. I drew the design, he filled in every shape like a pro, and we built this together.

Thank you, Rootdown, for trusting me with your windows. I hope everyone driving by can’t miss that you’re officially NOW OPEN.

This was no dog portrait. 😂

I think this was only the second car I’ve ever painted, and I definitely underestimated how tricky it would be.

With a vehicle, every proportion is connected to every other proportion. You adjust the angle of one line, and suddenly the entire shape of the truck looks wrong. I spent a lot of time measuring, comparing, repainting, and second-guessing myself on this one.

I started over more times than I’d like to admit and went through FOUR canvases in the process. So if you need a wonky gold Jimmy painting, I’ve got several versions available. 😂

In the end, though, it’s turned out pretty good, and I’m proud of it. I love a project that forces me to level up.

I’ve spent more time than I’d like to admit staring at reference photos, measuring wheel openings, and adjusting tiny details on this old Jimmy. It’s still a work in progress, but that’s part of the fun.

Learning a lot from this one.
