Gateway Ranch

Gateway Ranch Gateway Ranch is a magical space dedicated to exploration, transformation, creation, and celebration. Gateway Ranch is blessed with vast sky and pure silence.

We are not a commercial operation, but the Gateway is open to our friends and friends-of-friends for worthy causes. Facilities include outdoor amphitheater and dome, fire sculptures, sweat lodge, Navajo hogan, "superadobe" Gnome Dome, straw bale and Rastra block art studio, and the Temple of Life. Outdoor gathering and camp space is limited to 500 by our desire to preserve the sparse vegetation. At 5300' elevation, we average 10 degrees warmer than Flagstaff, and 20 degrees cooler than Phoenix. Nearby neighbors include Roden Crater, Grand Falls, and the Navajo Nation. Beyond the Painted Desert and Little Colorado River valley, the Hopi mesas rise in the distance. It's an easy, beautiful drive from here to Sedona and the Grand Canyon. 8 miles away, over a lava flow that calls for high clearance, the road running through Sunset Crater and Wupatki National Monument is smooth, clear, and downhill for a memorable 15 mile full moon bike ride. If the Gateway calls to you for creative expression, deep explorations, or a personal retreat, drop us a note and we'll discuss possibilities.

For everyone who has ever been part of the Gateway Ranch family, this message is for you.

This May, we’re inviting all of our Gateway Ranch friends, supporters, neighbors, and community members to come experience what we’ve been building together.

The Mosaic Gathering, produced by the Sondering community, is back for its 4th year. This is going to be the best one yet.

Mosaic is our annual celebration of art, music, creativity, connection, and community at Gateway Ranch. We think of it like Northern Arizona's show and tell. It is the place where all of the ideas, friendships, art, music, and magic that have grown out of Gateway and the Sondering community come together in one weekend.

We would truly love to see the Gateway family come out and be a part of it.

Does anyone know of an archive, library, or organization that might be interested in taking these Indigenous publications from the 70s? I have 15 issues of Akwesasne Notes and 1 issue of The Navajo Times, all from the mid to late 1970s. They’re in pretty good shape and full of interesting, insightful stuff. I’d love to donate them to a good home where they can be preserved, shared, and appreciated by others. Any leads are welcome. Thanks!

I spent most of today deep cleaning the Temple at Gateway Ranch, preparing the space for ceremony and entering into the new year with no dust in the corners. As I carefully took each item down from the altar—cleaning them and setting them aside to be rearranged once the entire altar was cleaned and polished—my heart overflowed with gratitude, even more so than before.

Every offering that adorns this altar now. Every offering that has come and gone over the years. The art donated to this space. The sound healings. The prayers. The intentions. The literal blood, sweat, and tears poured into this temple. The builders. The architects. The artists. The healers. The healed and the broken.

As the energy and history of this sacred space began to make its presence known to me, I stepped outside onto the stoop of the Temple to take a breath and let it all sink in. My eyes panned across this sacred land, and the full breadth of its healing power revealed itself to me at a deeper level than ever before. In my mind, a time lapse unfolded: decades of gatherings, celebrations, art, music, love, moments of awakening—on and on and on. And again, as it often does, the gravitas of my role as a steward of this sacred land became clarified for me to a new level.

Speaking for Michael and myself, we are honored to share this stewardship, and we are indescribably excited to bring even more of what makes Gateway Ranch magical to this space in 2025 and beyond.

To every single one of you who has contributed to the magic of Gateway Ranch: thank you. Thank you, Kate, for your vision and the actions that created this place. We love you and are deeply grateful for your continued wisdom and guidance as we carry the baton forward.

Tonight, Michael and I, along with our partners, Eva and Leighann, will ring in the new year in ceremony in the Temple of Life. Together, we will set and speak our intentions for the year ahead—personally and as the caretakers of this sacred space.

Our intentions?More art.More connection.More community.More intention.More celebration.More transformation.And above all: more love.

Happy New Year, Gateway Ranch family. We love you. Yes, YOU.
