“I seek to enliven the artistic pursuits of students by sharing my enthusiasm for clay gained from over three decades of studio practice and teaching. I wish to support the vital importance of a student’s self-discovery and creative process, having had a lifetime immersion in that medium. I bring to my presentations techniques and knowledge gained by my study with master craftsman and ceramic artists from around the world. My teaching background allows me to demonstrate the competence of studio practice and translate those techniques into workshop friendly artistic processes. I desire to share my expertise in multiple areas of the ceramic realm. This ranges from mugs to murals, maiolica to raku, low fire to high fire, and functional to decorative projects. Studies of the natural world are often woven into my teaching, providing a spark of inspiration allowing students to see their own world with fresh eyes. In developing my ceramic workshops I look for fresh ideas and inspiration from the music, folk lore, poetry and stories of cultures from every part of our world. I enjoy sharing my own discovery of diverse communities, societies and locales. Through the magic of the creative process I believe I can help students to recognize and honor humanity’s common ground. Clay with its varied, ancient and global history provides the perfect medium for sharing cultural commonalities and diversity. “
