One of my favorite weekend activities is hitting the hiking trails with my family! And there are some amazing views in South Atlanta.
Here's a list of my favorite places to hike with a view:
✔️ Line Creek Nature Preserve
✔️ Chattahoochee Bend State Park
✔️ Brown's Mill - Coweta County Parks & Recreation
✔️ Cochran Mill Park
✔️ The Ridge Nature Area
Any others I should add to the list?

Save the Date! #GivingTuesday is coming up on November 30, and we are asking that you join us in our mission to instill a love for nature in the next generation!
When you donate to us on Giving Tuesday, you are helping bring equitable environmental education, public nature preserves, and wildlife habitats to our community.
Today's children now spend hours in front of a screen versus just minutes outside. What if you could inspire a child to spend more time outdoors? With your help, the Southern Conservation Trust can provide additional outdoor environmental educational, and recreational programs, to even more children from the community. When a child is engaged with nature and learn about the many ecosystems they are also a part of, a true love for nature will develop and will strengthen their bond with the world around them.
Together, we’re providing meaningful interactions with nature to children and families - a love that can be passed down for future generations. Click the link below to join us in our mission to inspire the next generation!

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Please refrain from feeding any wildlife at our parks and nature areas!
Recently, we have noticed an influx of wildlife being fed at our parks and nature areas such as corn being put out at The Ridge Nature Area, a food dish left out at Sam's Lake Bird Sanctuary, and various people feeding the ducks at Line Creek Nature Area. We know people have good intentions, and while it may seem like you are doing the right thing and helping them, it has many downsides and causes many issues among wildlife.
We want to keep our trails safe for the public to enjoy nature and wildlife (from a safe distance), and by feeding them we encourage them to approach humans (which is not safe for you or them), major health problems (such as Angel Wing Syndrome in waterfowl), aggression, and greater risk of transmitting diseases among wildlife and humans.
We appreciate your help and understanding in this matter. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email [email protected]

Congratulations Brooke!
Congratulations to Brooke Winters on winning our first ever Students for Stewardship Award!
Brooke is a senior at McIntosh High School in Peachtree City, Georgia, and will be attending Georgia Tech in the fall majoring in Bio-Engineering. She has been our high school inter this past year, and has been an outstanding steward for nature in our organization.
Thank you so much for all of your hard work Brooke!
We would like to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all of our Mother’s out there!
Photographed here is one amazing mom! This mother opossum will carry her young on her back, once they are old enough to leave her pouch, and teach them important skills such as how to find food and avoid predators. These babies will stay with their mom until they are about 3-4 months old, before embarking on their own journey of life.
Today is World Migratory Bird Day! The theme for this year is: “Sing, Fly, Soar like a Bird!” It is a day to explore everything that makes birds unique such as what makes birds sing, and the power of flight. What better way to celebrate than by going to Sams Lake Bird Sanctuary to spend the day bird watching!
Thank you to one of our volunteers, Morgan Quimby, for submitting this post to us!

Thank you again for everything.
If you haven't had a chance to make a gift, it's not too late! Make your tax-deductible contribution today to expand access to environmental education for children and adults in Georgia and the Southeast by visiting www.sctlandtrust.org/Nature.
We cannot thank everyone enough for your generous support today! There are just a few more hours to double your donation and help support the development of the Fayette Environmental Education Center! We have met our goal for #GivingTuesday; however, we still have a long way to go before Fayette County’s newest attraction is fully funded. Please visit www.sctlandtrust.org/GivingTuesday to learn more about the many ways you can help.
We are absolutely thrilled to announce we have reached our #GivingTuesday fundraising goal of $2,000 for the Fayette Environmental Education Center (FEEC)! Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed and shared our message!
Danger Noodle, one of our resident animal ambassadors, wants to thank you for your support and share that a special donor has announced they will match all NEW donations up to $5,000 made by midnight tonight, which will help your gift go twice as far! Will you join us and double your impact to expand access to environmental education and help us build Danger Noodle and his friends at FEEC a new enclosure by donating today?
Danger Noodle is a grey rat snake (Pantherophis spiloides) currently being raised at FEEC. Grey rat snakes are a very common snake in Fayette County and can reach up to 6 feet long. During warm days you can find these snakes sunbathing on the branches of trees.
Visit www.sctlandtrust.org/GivingTuesday for more information on how you can support SCT this Giving Tuesday!

These photos were taken this week at the Meditation Oaks - a hiking destination on Three Oaks Trail at the Ridge Nature Area. Dedicated to my #1 volunteers - Evelyn and Garrick - who have walked, trimmed and blazed every trail at the Ridge during the last 3 years. They helped me slow down sometimes to see the trees in the forest. I hope you have a chance to do the same at the Ridge.
