Honoring Naomi Campbell for Black History Month 🖤
After reading a CNN Style interview where Naomi shared she never planned to be a model and didn’t realize the history she was making until later, it made me think about how sometimes God reveals things to us, but we may not fully understand what He’s doing in the moment.
It really is God’s plan for us not to always know the weight of what we’re walking in. The pressure that comes with knowing can be heavy. Sometimes we are stepping into purpose, even making history, and don’t yet see the magnitude of it. Not because He hasn’t shown us, but because we’re still growing into the understanding of it.
Since it’s already written, what are we worrying about? What am I worrying about?
The pressure. The “I want to get this right.” Truth is, I’m going to get a lot wrong and not always have a great experience with things, places, or people. Still, life is worth living anyway. Life is worth taking the first step. LIVE. SHOW UP.
You could be making history and not even know it.
Naomi became the first Black woman on the cover of British Vogue in 1987, the first Black woman on the cover of French Vogue in 1988, and the first Black woman on the cover of Time magazine’s European edition in 1991.
There were discouraging words. There were moments when her shade of makeup wasn’t even available on set, so she began bringing her own.
She didn’t stop. She adjusted. She kept showing up. 💜
