There is a Gaelic word that will stop you in your tracks the moment you hear it. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Lùchairt (pronounced LOO-kharstch) means palace. But your ancestors didn't use it only for grand royal halls. They used it for every place that once held warmth, laughter, and clan life — even if all that remains today is a crumbling arch and a floor of heather.

When a Highland Scot stood in the ruins of their family's home after the Clearances, they didn't see rubble. They saw a lùchairt. A palace. Because what happened inside those walls — the births, the céilidhs, the prayers, the stories told by firelight — made it one.

This is what the Gaelic language does that English simply cannot. It holds the memory of what a place was, not just what it is. And for the millions of diaspora Scots who have never stood inside their ancestral home, that word carries everything.

Your family's lùchairt is still out there. In stone. In records. In your blood. 🦌⚔️

What part of Scotland did your family come from? Drop your clan or county in the comments — let's map the palaces of the Scottish diaspora together.
