Camilla made her debut a whole 6 weeks early. Her mom originally booked a maternity session with me, but we had to change it to newborn since the little lady came early! She was a little over 8 weeks in these photos, but still so tiny. Thankfully she’s doing great and is a healthy, happy, growing baby! @ Woodbridge, Virginia

Look at this beauty... one of the first cameras I ever shot with. I started shooting film photography at the age of 14. I developed my own film and my own prints. (By the way, when you develop your own film you have to load it in the dark, so you're basically blind.)

I fell in love with photography SO much I went to art school in Boston (with a scholarship due to my bad ass portfolio) and received my BFA. Recently it's like every one and their cousin thinks they're photographers. I won't lie; it really bothers me. Not because people can't decide they want to try something new, but because they're trying to make a BUSINESS out of something they aren't going to take the time to TRULY learn or understand.

More than 300 million photos are uploaded to Facebook each day and 27,800 to Instagram PER minute. We are basically sharing nearly 2 billion images every day.

Sadly, the biggest problem isn’t all the people cropping up deciding to be photographers. It’s the people who don’t recognize bad photography. And that isn’t their fault! They see something like “10 newborn photos for $50!” 🤔 If you’re paying CHEAP, you’re getting cheap. Point blank. I’m not trying to sound harsh or biased, but it’s the truth, and the truth hurts sometimes.

People aren’t thinking about photography anymore as an art. They’re thinking about instant gratification. Sure, digital cameras can do the work when it comes to lighting, but that’s it. The person behind the camera is responsible for EVERY THING else. For me it’s about the process of finding the best light, the best angle, all while creating a timeless moment that my clients and their loved ones can cherish forever. That’s the difference between a person with a camera and a photographer.

The first partially successful photograph of a camera image was made in approximately 1816 by Nicéphore Niépce, using a very small camera of his own making and a piece of paper coated with silver chloride, which darkened where it was exposed to light.
