Illustration & Symbolic Arts Studio - by Patricia Ariel House of Mirrors is a project by Patricia Ariel, visual artist based in the Pacific Northwest.

Initially thought to be a place to accommodate Patricia’s illustration work apart from her fine art creations, it is also intended to reach other areas of interest like education, healing, and the symbolic arts. Patricia creates images full of symbolism, evoking spirituality and mysticism. She believes in promoting consciousness and a perception of the spiritual and sacred in the mind of the view

er through her images, in which beauty and communion with nature are always present. Patricia works primarily in graphite, acrylics, and ink on paper. Her work has been displayed and collected worldwide, having appeared in various products and publications in the United States and abroad. She has been commissioned for various personal and publishing projects with focus on spirituality and mysticism.

After working on more visceral paintings for my last show, it's refreshing to go spiritual and symbolist again.

I went through the white flowers phase in different times and I would love to do a series of it, but everytime something becomes an obligation it turns into a burden. So, playing with the tides, as it's the right thing to do for me.

2022 found me with an irresistible wish to work on some graphite pieces. I revisited some works from 4 or 5 years ago and felt again the urge to explore the softness and versatility of one of my favorite media. It's always so refreshing to switch between media once in a while, and rekindle the excitement when things start getting a bit stale.

Hope in this new year you are able to find new ways to work on old things. To rekindle the fire and find joy again when so many are losing hope. Happy 2022. ❤️

Feliz Dia de Los Mu***os!

Death, transformation and transitions have been a current theme in my work. As a spiritualist I don't believe that what we call "life" ends in the tomb, but that our consciousness survives to the decay of the physical body and keeps manifesting in planes of lower density, which is its their natural "habitat". The death of the physical body is a natural and necessary process for the balance of life in this planet, and a part of the mechanism of evolution here.

After participating in the 3 first editions of the in the past years, I am back on board for the 2022 edition, "Magical". This edition is all about fantastical and mythical things and it will be a nice opportunity to have fun exercising my "fantasy art" side. :)

A lot of people (and I mean, A LOT) ask me when I am going to create my own tarot deck. Although I've been very familiar with the tarot and its symbols for practically my whole life, I confess that drawing 78 artworks is a very daunting task. It would take a really big proposal from some external "force" in order to make me do it. On the other side, I have plans to create my own oracle deck sometime in the future.

The work depicted is the "Eight of Cups" I created for the very first edition of the 78 Tarot. It's one of my personal favorites to this day. Original is in a private collection.

There was a time when I enjoyed working with color. But as my skills improved, I found color to be less and less necessary until moving definitely to monochrome heaven. Now when I use color I prefer to do it sparingly and stick to a single one, just to enhance the work or to create a statement.

"Wocekye" is one of the pieces created in my color phase in which I basically worked with watercolors or watered down acrylics and graphite. It was a commissioned piece for a marrying couple and to this day it remains one of my most popular artworks.

In many cultures, the deer is seen as a symbol of prosperity, innocence, kindness and gentleness. The shedding of their antlers makes of it also a emblem of rebirth and regeneration.

Rebirth comes from within, from a place of inner vision and self-understanding. Only by looking inside and learning how to use our resources constructively we can heal ourselves, and consequently, heal the world and the people around us.

5" x 7" inches, matted to 8" x 10" (white mat). In two paper colors: yellow ocher and natural. Hand embellished in gold and silver metallic inks, making each print unique.
