Tropical Events

Tropical Events Tropical is a legendary West Coast event series that recently celebrated 25 years in business. In 2024 Tropical hosted 6 events - 3 in Oregon and 3 in California!. In 2024 Tropical works more as a collaborative force, bringing people together for more dynamic and successful results.

🌴 Tropical was founded in 1998 by Ben Annand with a vision to improve the image of electronic music events by creating a high-quality production that also raises money and awareness for the less-fortunate. There have been over 90 Tropical events in California, Washington, Hawaii, and Oregon since, over which time the nonprofit party has raised over $33,000 for charitable causes.

Tropical started in a warehouse on October 9, 1998, and moved around to different warehouses in its first 5 years. In 2004 things got experimental with the first-ever Tropical Boat Party, and other formats were later added including Tropical Campout (2007), Tropical Beach Party (2009), and Tropical Oasis Retreat (2011).

Tropical Oasis Retreat happened 6 times in Southern California before jumping to a truly Tropical desination - Hawaii - in January 2018 (Tropical Oasis Retreat Kau'ai). Tropical followed in 2019 with a 400-person extravaganza right on the beach on Maui. After fortuitously planning 2020 off after NYE in California, Tropical returned to Hawaii December 2021 for it's 3rd Hawaiian Island - Tropical Oasis Retreat Big Island. Stay tuned if we make it 4!

After 25 years, 2024 is a year of change for Tropical. Mostly we plan to work as a collaborative force, bringing people together for more dynamic and successful results.

April 6, 2024 Mazatlan Mexico. Tropical hosts Saturday night dance music at Portal Eclipse Festival, ahead of Monday April 8th's total solar eclipse. For information on tickets and vacation packages, visit Facebook.com/tropaztlan

Sept 27-29, 2024 Tropical celebrates 26 years in Frazier Park, CA at a stunning and modern Girl Scout camp in. their off-season. Up to 6 other collaborators will be pulled in to host different cabin and tent villages in this gorgeous spot with over 200 beds, heated swimming pool and 5400 foot elevation just over an hour from Los Angeles.

What is Tropical Eclipse Retreat España?

Tropical Eclipse Retreat España is a 120 person maximum intimate eclipse retreat event with 4 days of accommodations Included either on the event site, or in houses surrounding the perimeter.

There will be options to either book a whole house or book individual rooms, as well as add days before and after if desired.

Anyone staying in accommodations booked through us will have the Eclipse Event Pass included, giving access to all events on the event site

Events include:

- Arrival Party (Outdoors 7pm- midnight on Saturday, July 31)

- Arrival Afterparty (Indoors from midnight to 4)

- Pre Eclipse Social (Outdoors til 10pm Sunday, Aug 1)

- Eclipse Viewing Event (Outdoors Monday morning, Aug 2

- After-Eclipse Outdoor Party (Outdoors all day approx noon to midnight, Aug 2

- After-Eclipse Afterhours (indoors from midnight to 4)

- Farewell Social, Outdoors 4-10pm Tuesday, Aug 3

There will be a few Eclipse Event Pases reserved for people who can't stay for 4 nights, or have their own accommodation.

But primarily, this is an accommodations included retreat, and we feel we have the best properties reserved - ranging from 5 minutes to event site to 20, but right at the beach :)

We are excited to share specific accommodations on Oct 1, and put packages on sale on Tropical's 28th birthday, Oct 9

Why Tropical Eclipse Retreat España?

In 2017 I played my very first-ever downtempo DJ set at the Oregon Eclipse Festival (Global Eclipse Gathering) near Prineville with 30,000 total in attendance. We stayed all 7 days. The eclipse experience was a bit dark and eerie with so many people, so much energy. It was special, but intense.

In April 2024, I had no interest in a similar large festival experience in Texas rather than Oregon. Instead, Tropical aligned with a 150-person Mazatlan Eclipse festival in the early stages of planning. We ended up hosting a night of music at an eclipse event more focused on speakers and workshops than music, and it was a great experience!

The actual eclipse was the highlight. 6 of us enjoyed a spectacular eclipse totality of 4 minutes and 20 seconds from a Mazatlan rooftop on a very sunny and clear day. We realized that we definitely don't need to be around 30,000 people to experience an eclipse.

The other thing we realized is that we would rather do the surrounding event ourselves, because the event that they put on just wasn't our vision.

So here we are! We had some thoughts on the 2026 eclipse in Northern Spain, but the duration is shorter, chance of cloudiness higher, and tbh we just weren't ready anyway.

The lead-up to that event became our early planning period, securing venue and accommodations at the best prices before any 2027 eclipse fervor appeared.

This is the most excited I have been to host an event in a long time!

Let's road-trip from LA and SD! My daughter and I will stay at the Golden Nugget just a few blocks away - Pachi is in old Vegas, right by the Fremont Street Experience. On Sunday we will go to Area 15. Join us!
