Blue Owens Needs Our Help., organized by Dave Roberts

We all love Blue Owens. I know this has been a hard couple of years for many of us; however, Blue needs our financial help. Blue had some unexpected stuff pop up and needs help to pay for professional services. I am trying to keep the details private on social media. If you want to know what's up, you can verify his situation with his band-mates, Barry Bogart, Michael Morningsun, Young James or Trevecca Winters, who helps with his care. We all appreciate anything you can do to help Blue meet this financial emergency. Thank you.

Good one Les Paul!

“I was always a prankster...And one time at WBBM, I decided I wanted to play a trick on everybody in the control room. So I caught a common house fly, went to one of the main microphones they used on the air, opened up the housing, put the fly inside, and closed it back up. Then I just sat back and watched them go crazy trying to figure out where the buzzing was coming from. The fly would buzz around inside the mic and then rest for a couple of seconds, and the engineers were going nuts trying to find the cause. Watching them trying to identify the problem just struck me as very funny, and they never did figure it out until I finally told them." -Les Paul

I have been involved with Blues music for well over 58 years and support Bluesicians in any way that I am able to. I am proud to again be back involved with the Rainy Day Blues Society and urge each and every one of you to also support not only the local Blues scene but the great National acts that come through our area. I am an artist and also dabble in photography.

Is the a Blues Jam next Tuesday (29th) ?
Heartfelt thanks from Billy Boy Arnold and myself to all the reviewers who have helped to spread the word about "The Blues Dream of Billy Boy Arnold," the blues legend's new memoir! "This is one of the most readable blues biographies of all time....Billy Boy is a walking encyclopaedia of the blues, sharp as a tack with an excellent memory….His chapter on searching for Sonny Boy [John Lee Williamson] and the true story of how Sonny Boy was murdered is a brilliant chapter, evocative and sharply recalled....Complete with discography, great photos including some as a teenager, in Chicago, and on tour, and three pages of street maps of Chicago."—Blues & Rhythm magazine “An outstanding biography….Arnold narrates in his own distinctive and trustworthy voice, capably facilitated by musician and writer Kim Field. And an amazing story it is. It seems nearly more than an autobiography, as it presents the back-history of an era—the Chicago nexus years between the blues and rock ‘n’ roll—in which harpist, singer, songwriter Billy Boy Arnold was a central figure, an era in which the blues, which Arnold so loves, underwent radical societal and cultural changes….An invaluable travelogue of an erstwhile, Black South Side Chicago (the book contains three essential maps that pinpoint the location of clubs, ballrooms, schools, Black-owned businesses, and musicians’ homes), and delineates for the reader the under-documented diversity of Black culture at the time.”—Living Blues magazine "An extremely fascinating read….A miraculous story, spanning seven decades of Chicago blues. He [Arnold] is very much an historian in that he's aware of the sociological facts of African-American life in Chicago through all these different eras, whether it's zoning restrictions for blacks buying homes, police practices of the era, Jim Crow in the South, etc...The overall picture of the heyday of the blues in Chicago is magnificent....Arnold's memories of that world are like being there....What is so impressive about his viewpoint is his ability to see the whole spectrum of blues without his ego getting in the way of assessing the entire Chicago blues scene from an insider's point of view.”—Blues Music magazine “Harmonica legend Billy Boy Arnold tells his life story with the help of writer Kim Field. At 86, he’s still standing, telling stories with heart and humor.” ― DownBeat "A lively, illuminating memoir. . . Arnold’s heartfelt, honest, insider’s view of Chicago blues from the 1940s onward will be essential to anyone interested in blues and the origins of rock and roll.” ― Library Journal "This unparalleled memoir of living history is not only billed as a dream, it actually reads like one. . . . Anyone with an interest in the classic era of Chicago blues will want to savor every detail, insight, and anecdote in Billy Boy’s incredible eye-witness account of how it went down back in the day." ― Shindig! “Billy Boy Arnold’s great Vee-Jay sides were a big influence on me when I was first starting out. The first two singles I ever played on were covers of Billy Boy Arnold tunes that I recorded with The Yardbirds. I'm very happy to see Billy Boy Arnold's amazing personal story finally appear in print.” ― Eric Clapton, Grammy Award-winning member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame “No one has lived the Chicago blues like Billy Boy Arnold, and no one has more stories. This book is a journey through eighty years of history with an incredible supporting cast and a particularly charming and observant guide, who saw it all and is still making wonderful music.” ― Elijah Wald, Grammy Award winner and author of Escaping the Delta: Robert Johnson and the Invention of the Blues “The Blues Dream of Billy Boy Arnold is in every respect not just excellent but exemplary: a blues autobiography to be reckoned with. Arnold—by dint of his unusually long career, his exceptionally detailed memory, and his many friendships with key figures on the scene—is the only one who can tell this particular story. His shrewd, candid appraisals of his peers, leavened with quirky detail, add significantly to our understanding of postwar Chicago blues.” ― Adam Gussow, author of Whose Blues?: Facing Up to Race and the Future of the Music
