Painting the sunset in real time is an exhilarating experience. Success begins with good preparation and anticipation and ends with throwing down thick paint in a mad dash as the light fades. My workshop will offer many practical steps to getting "a keeper." https://www.augustapleinair.com/workshops/

I'm pleased to be awarded 2nd Place in the Gillioz Theatre Open Art Contest in Springfield, MO. The Gillioz is one of the few remaining palatial theaters that were built almost a century ago. I'm reminded of the sense of awe that overwhelmed me as a child entering the Fox Theatre in my hometown of Joplin. I chose to paint the keystone above center stage because it would be in the peripheral vision of anyone who had ever attended an event there, even if they never really noticed it. "The Keystone" 16x12, oil on linen.

Congratulations Larry.

I had such a wonderful time painting at Rendezvous Plein Air Festival in Winter Park Colorado. The color was spectacular, as was the weather. To top it off, my painting a "Aglow Under James Peak", won the grand prize! Thanks to judges, Heather Burton Artist/Illustrator and Liz Gore for the prize and Laura Kratz, Allison Bartholomew and the rest of the team who made this event a success.

Beautiful work from Larry DeGraff.

Beautiful work from Larry DeGraff.

A painting I've been working on in between plein air events. My passion for the landscape goes back to sensing God's majesty through His creation. Especially places that you can only experience on foot and away from the crowds. "The Hiker" 18x24 oil on canvas.

Whether or not you subscribe to the adage that the devil always has the best music, you can take it on faith that anytime he pops up for a cameo in a Ray Wylie Hubbard song, the results are gonna be pretty damned entertaining. And as any fan of the Hubbard cannon knows, Old Scratch pops up in his songs a lot—nearly as often as all of Hubbard’s wise cracking black birds, lyrical and musical nods to Lightnin’ Hopkins, bad - (usually Hubbard’s own wife, Judy), and a myriad of other grifters, ruffians, and scrappy cats of the gnarly and general

lowdown variety. Somewhere or other on just about every Ray Wylie Hubbard album, the devil always gets his due—and he’s now even worked his way up to top billing on the acclaimed songwriter’s latest, Tell the Devil I’m Getting There as Fast as I Can (due August 1 8, 2017 on Bordello Records through Thirty Tigers).

Man About a Horse brandishes strong ties to the folk music tradition, with a progressive streak that informs their original songwriting. The band is known for its vocal harmonies; uptempo, high-energy sets; and rock-solid, authentic songwriting.

Man About a Horse has performed at festivals and in venues around the eastern U.S., and shared bills with the likes of Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, The Travelin’ McCourys, Danny Barnes, Donna the Buffalo, Wood & Wire, and many others. The band has released two studio recordings: “The EP” (2015) and a self-titled full-length “Man About a Horse” (2017), which debuted at #11 on the Billboard Bluegrass Chart, and earned widespread praise, including from Bluegrass Unlimited, the bluegrass genre’s premier magazine for 50 years.

The Riverside, September 24th, 7-9pm, Estes Park Masonic Lodge The Riverside is a band of friends from California, founded by husband and wife duo, Jacob and Lorien Jeanson. The band endeavors to bring back the love of raw live performance. Circled around one large microphone, they rely on one another to find balance in the music. Through vocal harmony and their folk-rooted stringed instruments, the band paints landscapes and tells their stories. Suggested donation is $20 per person and all proceeds go to the band. Please bring your own drink (alcohol is permitted). After their performance, the band members will be excited to meet and talk to people. In 2017, The Riverside performed on the side-stage at Red Ants Pants Music Festival in White Sulphur Springs, Montana and won the band contest by popular vote! They recently opened the 2018 Red Ants Pants Festival on the main stage, in addition to playing in the cow pasture while festival goers came and went. They are truly a special group that you won't want to miss!
