📷 Travel | Nature | Faith But the site is still just a hobby for me.

I am an amateur photographer and travel/history enthusiast from Florida. My love of photography began in 2005 with the purchase of my first digital camera. Shortly afterwards, I started an online web gallery to share the photos with friends and family. Since then, the interest in my photography has grown and so has my topics. By 2009, the site expanded to the travel site "Around the World in Pictu

res", a collection of photos from the places I have visited along with the stories behind them. Then in 2011, the site expanded once again with the addition of two new pages "Above the Clouds" and "Touch Em All". The latest expansion was as a result of the demand for my aircraft and baseball photography. What has started as a way to share photos to friends and family has grown to an internet collection of over 12,000 photos nearing 1 million visitors. I am not a professional nor do I make money off the photos or stories. It is simply a project of mine to help get the photos out there for everyone to enjoy. I really hope you enjoy the site and much as I enjoy bringing it to you. If you enjoy the work, remember to follow us on Facebook, Twitter or by email to be notified when new content is added. Also feel free to comment or add you own personal experiences from your visits. If you have any question or comments, e-mail me at [email protected].

There are places you visit—and then there are places that feel like home. 🍽️🏡

During a stop in Crossville, Tennessee, we found exactly that at Cabin on the Plateau—a historic log cabin filled with warmth, tradition, and true Southern hospitality. From the moment you walk in, the rustic charm and welcoming spirit invite you to slow down and simply enjoy the moment.

The meal was just as memorable as the setting. Every dish felt like it was made with care, served in generous portions that remind you no one leaves hungry around here.

But more than the food, it’s the feeling this place gives you. A reminder to pause, to gather, and to appreciate the simple blessings—good food, kind people, and time well spent.

If your travels take you across the Cumberland Plateau, don’t just pass through—stop, sit, and stay awhile. You might just find more than a meal… you might find a moment that sticks with you. 🙏

Some trails lead you somewhere… and some remind you of something greater. 🌄

Just outside Crossville, the Black Mountain Overlook Trail may be short and quiet, but the view at the end speaks volumes. As the trees open up, you’re met with a sweeping panorama of the Cumberland Plateau—rolling hills layered into the distance, wrapped in peace and stillness.

It’s the kind of place that invites you to pause, reflect, and simply take it all in.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.” — Psalm 19:1

Whether you catch it at sunrise or sunset, this overlook offers more than just a view—it offers perspective.

Sometimes the journey isn’t just about where you’re going—but the quiet moments along the way.

Stopped in Alpharetta, Georgia and found one of those moments at The Original Pancake House 🍳🥞

There’s something special about sitting down to a simple, hearty breakfast—the kind that reminds you to slow down and receive. The omelets here are big, fluffy, and filled to the brim, a small picture of provision in every bite. And the pancakes… golden, light, and full of flavor, with more variety than you can choose from in one visit.

But more than the food, it’s the pause that stays with you. A warm cup of coffee, the hum of conversation, and a reminder that God often meets us in the ordinary moments—if we’re willing to notice.

Wherever you’re traveling, don’t rush past the simple blessings along the way. Sometimes, even breakfast can be a moment of grace.

Introducing The Wandering Disciple 📷✝️🌍

A new chapter begins—built on the same passion and storytelling you’ve come to know through Donten Photography, but with a deeper purpose guiding every step.

The Wandering Disciple is more than travel and nature photography. It’s a journey of faith. A walk with God through mountain trails, quiet shores, and wide-open roads—seeking His presence in every sunrise, every landscape, and every moment of stillness.

Here, the goal isn’t just to capture beautiful places—it’s to reflect the beauty of His creation and the path He lays before us. Every image tells a story not only of where we’ve been, but of Who guides us along the way.

If you’ve followed the journey before, you’ll still find the same love for adventure, breathtaking views, and meaningful moments—but now with a heart centered on faith, purpose, and walking closer with Him.

“To wander the world, to wonder at His creation, and to follow Him always.”

Join me on this journey.

There are places where God’s presence feels especially close—not in the loud or dramatic, but in the quiet moments. The Seven Bridges Trail in Fairfield Glades is one of those places. 🌿

As you walk the trail, the gentle sound of flowing streams follows you from bridge to bridge, weaving through boulders that have stood for generations. Each crossing offers a chance to pause, reflect, and take in the beauty of creation.

In the warmer months, wildflowers add soft touches of color along the path—a reminder that God’s beauty is often found in the smallest details.

It’s an easy, peaceful hike of about 2 miles, starting near the Methodist Church parking area on Westchester Drive. From there, the trail invites you to slow down, breathe, and simply be present.

Sometimes, the most meaningful journeys aren’t about where you’re going—but about walking with Him along the way. 💧

There’s something about a mountain morning in Gatlinburg that just makes breakfast taste better and Mountain Breakfast absolutely delivered.

The ham and cheese omelet was everything you want to start your day; hot, fluffy, and packed with flavor. It was hearty and filling without being overwhelming, the kind of meal that keeps you fueled for a full day of exploring the Smokies.

But the real standout? The chicken and waffles. Crispy, golden chicken paired with soft waffles and topped with a sweet heat syrup that hit the spot perfectly. The balance of sweet and spicy was just right; bold enough to notice, but not overpowering.

We grabbed a cozy spot out on the patio right by the creek, which made the whole experience even better. Between the peaceful sounds of the water and the fresh mountain air, it felt like the perfect slow start to the day.

Great service and genuinely friendly staff rounded it all out. If you’re in Gatlinburg and looking for a breakfast that’s both comforting and memorable, this is definitely a spot worth checking out.

There’s something special about a hike where the sound of rushing water never leaves you 🌿💧

The Deep Creek Waterfall Loop in Great Smoky Mountains National Park turned out to be one of those perfect, easygoing adventures that still delivers incredible scenery. In just about 2.4 miles, this trail packs in three beautiful waterfalls—each with its own personality.

The hike starts off with a bit of a climb to Juney Whank Falls, where a footbridge gives you a great view of the two-tier cascade tucked into the forest. From there, the trail settles into a more relaxed pace as it follows along Deep Creek, leading to the wide, picture-perfect Tom Branch Falls flowing right into the stream. It’s easily one of the most photogenic spots on the trail.

Continuing on, you’ll reach Indian Creek Falls—the largest of the three—where the water drops into a მშვიდ, shaded pool that feels like a hidden retreat in the woods. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to slow down and just take it all in for a while.

Between the towering trees, wooden bridges, and constant soundtrack of flowing water, this loop is a great reminder that you don’t have to hike far to experience something memorable in the Smokies.

📍 Deep Creek area, near Bryson City, NC
🥾 Easy to moderate | ~2.4 mile loop

If you’re visiting the Smoky Mountains and want a hike with a big payoff without a huge time commitment, this one is hard to beat.
