Gather your friends and head to Holt Village Hall on Friday 17 April or Saturday 18 April (4 tickets left) to help solve a murder.

Rest assured, though โ€“ no real vets have been harmed in the making of this production, so the local residents can relax!

This quirky comedy murder mystery is set in the Crooked Stile Veterinary Practice in the village of Sandy Bottom, Sparrowdale, owned by celebrity vet Leo Cooperthwaite, presenter of the long-running television show Country Piles. Unfortunately for Leo, it seems he is not quite as popular as he thinks.

As the harassed television production team struggle to film another episode of the programme, chaos unfolds in the Treatment Room. A colourful collection of characters appear, including devoted cat owners, enthusiastic dog lovers and an irate local farmer. Each of them has their own grievanceโ€ฆ but who actually murders Leo Cooperthwaite, and why?

That is the mystery for YOU to solve.

Guests will be seated at tables of eight and will have the chance to follow the clues as the drama unfolds. There will be plenty of time to discuss your theories while enjoying a light supper.

Following the success of our previous murder mystery evening, there will once again be prizes (and plenty of applause) for the teams who correctly identify the culprit. A cash bar will also be available throughout the evening for celebratory drinks โ€“ or perhaps consolation if your detective skills let you down.

Tickets are just ยฃ10, including supper, available from Holt Superstore.

Come along for an evening of laughter, intrigue, good food and great company. The only question isโ€ฆ will you be able to solve the mystery?

๐Ÿ“ฃ Calling all actors.

Holt Players are now casting for their upcoming production of Rope by Patrick Hamilton, directed by Felix Byrne and scheduled for performance in mid April 2026.

Felix is currently looking to cast four male roles:

Brandon, playing age approximately 30 to 50
Philip, playing age approximately 30 to 50
Kenneth, playing age approximately 30 to 50
Rupert, playing age approximately 30 to 70

Auditions will be arranged individually, with date, time and location confirmed directly with those interested.

Rope is a powerful psychological thriller centred on a cold-blooded, premeditated murder committed by two friends purely for the thrill of it. The play explores their intense relationship as they cross moral boundaries and confront the most disturbing taboo of all, taking a life simply because they believe they can. Based on real life events, the story exposes deeply uncomfortable human truths and remains as gripping and unsettling today as when it was first written.

If you would like to be considered for a role, or would like further information before committing, please contact Felix directly at [email protected].

Please feel free to share this post or forward it to anyone who may be interested in getting involved with this exciting and challenging production. Holt Players would love to hear from both familiar and new faces.

๐Ÿ“ฃ Holt Players are casting now for their next production this April and we would love to hear from anyone who has ever thought about stepping onto the stage.

We are preparing to perform Rope, the classic psychological thriller by Patrick Hamilton, famously adapted for film by Alfred Hitchcock. It is a gripping, tense and darkly fascinating play that still feels remarkably modern.

Set in a London flat, the story centres on two friends who commit a murder to prove their intellectual superiority and then host a dinner party with the body hidden in plain sight. As their guests chat just inches from the truth, the evening becomes an increasingly nerve-wracking battle of arrogance, suspicion and fraying nerves.

We are looking to cast two lead roles. The roles broadly suit adults from around 25 to 60, but ages are flexible depending on who comes forward. If you are interested, Felix the Director, is happy to arrange individual auditions at times that suit, so please do not feel put off if you have never auditioned before or are unsure about availability.

The production will be performed at Holt Village Hall in April.

If this sounds like something you would enjoy, or if you know someone who might be interested, please do get in touch or share this post to help us spread the word.

We are excited to announce auditions for our next production: Rope by Patrick Hamilton, directed by Felix Byrne. Chilling, gripping and brilliantly tense, this famous psychological thriller inspired Alfred Hitchcock and remains one of the most fascinating plays of the twentieth century.

Set in a London flat, two students commit a murder to prove their supposed intellectual superiority. They hide the body in a chest, then proceed to host a dinner party using the very same chest as the buffet table. With their guests chatting just inches from the truth, the evening becomes a taut and unnerving game of nerves, suspicion and arrogance.

We are looking for a strong ensemble cast across a range of ages, including:

โ€ข Wyndham Brandon โ€“ young (20โ€“30s)
โ€ข Charles Granillo โ€“ a young Spaniard (20โ€“30s)
โ€ข Sabot โ€“ a French servant (25โ€“40s)
โ€ข Kenneth Raglan โ€“ very young (20โ€“25)
โ€ข Leila Arden โ€“ young (20โ€“25)
โ€ข Sir Johnstone Kentley โ€“ older (40โ€“50s)
โ€ข Mrs Debenham โ€“ about fifty (50โ€“60s)
โ€ข Rupert Cadell โ€“ around twenty-nine

Auditions will be held on:

โ€ข Tuesday 9 December at 7.45pm
โ€ข Sunday 14 December at 2.00pm

If you enjoy character-driven drama, sharp dialogue and high-stakes tension, this is the perfect opportunity to get involved. We welcome both new and returning actors, and ages can be flexible within reason.
