This is another frequently asked question I get.

So, to be completely open and honest with you guys…I don’t prewash my fabrics when making a quilted jacket 😳

Now, normally when making your own apparel you should prewash your fabrics.

But, in this case…maybe I’m lazy…or maybe I wanted to make sure I had a bit of that quilted crinkle when it was washed first the first time. It’s so cute!

Have you made a jacket yet?
Did you prewash, or just jump right in?

The color catchers are great for those of us that like to jump right in 😉

Curious if you all are like me?

Do you over think things?

Or do you just jump right in and figure things out?

I tend to over think things, but I have been trying to do better and just jump right in and figure things out. Sewing and quilting has been helping me with that.

I’m curious if you guys are the same as me?

Quilters math!

Can you imagine if they tried teaching it in school? 😂

Where a 1/4 inch seam allowance is an exact science and complete fiction! 😂

And where measurements can just magically shrink!

Am I right?

Another fun and easy project for you!

Here is what you need:
14 jelly roll strips
1 lining fabric cut to 13 1/2” x 40”

Sew your jelly roll strips lengthwise into two panels of seven strips each.

Cut them crosswise into 2 1/2” strips. I like to sew them into loops so I can keep my random look to my pattern.

Cut open a loop. Place it on one end of the lining piece of fabric, wrong sides together. Sew along the edge to secure. Make sure there is an even amount of the fabric strip overhanging each side of the lining piece.

Open up a loop and place on top of previously sewn strip, right sides together. Sew 1/4 seam down opposite edge. Press strips open. Repeat until entire lining is covered.

With lining fabric facing up trim the ends to the same edge. Then on the long sides trim excess strip fabric down to 1/2” on each side. Do a double fold hem along the long edges by doing two 1/4” folds, press and sew.

After it’s hemmed, lay flat, grab the center and tie into a knot. Conch knot tight in center. Fold right sides together and sew up each side 8”.

Open bottom of bag, fold to where the side seems are touching, sew along the bottom. I like to then box my corners by pinching the bottom corners and measuring in 1” and sew across. Trim off excess.

Flip bag right side out and tada!!! A fun quilted tote!

I can’t wait to see your creations!
