Long post. Go vote for your City Council.

City of Elizabethton - Government

It was another beautiful Saturday in the BUSINESS district in Downtown Elizabethton yesterday. We appreciate those that did show up. However, its days (and there are multiple of these days throughout the year) that E. Elk Ave gets "closed." These events keeps deterring regular customers from visiting the Downtown Business District where on a normal Saturday Tens of Thousands of dollars exchange hands from the multiples of business new and old in Downtown. Customers that avoid visiting on weeks the road is close, and take their business elsewhere. That money now doesn't exchange hands on Elk Ave. We are speaking up for the other businesses owners who are afraid to speak up due to threats. For the others that close early because these events slow down normal traffic (Few exceptions) to Downtown Elizabethton on the busiest shopping day of the week. We are continuing to ask nicely, to be mindful of our livelihoods when constructing your itinerary. Open flowing traffic will always be better than stagnate crowds blocking the roadway. Thank you.

Johnson City closes their main street for 3-5 weekends of the year.
Bristol closes their main street for 3-5 weekends a year.
Kingsport rarely does.
Jonesboro does. They have a team of 10+ people that work on advertising their downtown.

Why is Elizabethton sitting at 14 right now between either day of the weekend event on the year that blocks traffic flow? Better than the 30+ from the past. We do appreciate all the strides to make our downtown great. For the record we love Covered Bridge Days & Christmas Parade.

We have plenty of public event space & public parking lots. Why jam up one of Elizabethton's busiest business streets?

This is costing your tax dollars for city employees / police to help set up blockcades. Now lack of tax dollars coming into Downtown Elizabethton. As well as taking dollars out of many hard working people that depend on business in Downtown Elizabethton.

It is called the business district after all.
