New Art Alert 🚨 | Frank Howell

We’re excited to share these remarkable pieces from Frank Howell (1937–1997) — brought in by a family member and now available by private showing. Howell was a distinguished American artist celebrated for his masterful depictions of Native American figures and evocative Southwestern imagery.

Born in Sioux City, Iowa, Howell studied art and writing at the University of Northern Iowa, and later taught before dedicating his life fully to art. In the late 1960s he moved West, opening galleries in Breckenridge, Colorado and ultimately Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he became a central figure in the Southwest art scene.

Howell’s work is distinguished by its finely rendered, almost etching-like quality, sensitive draftsmanship, and a lyrical fusion of the physical and spiritual. His subjects — often rooted in Indigenous culture and landscapes — convey both dignity and timelessness. A true master across media, he worked in oils, watercolors, lithographs, monotypes, and printmaking, and his art continues to be sought after by collectors nationwide.
