Most of us carry smartphones in our pockets, ready to snap a photo at any moment. But what if we tried instead to paint the moments we aim to capture? How might that change our experience of being in a place? Plein Air Washington Artists visit regularly, practicing this slower form of creating a memory.

“I hiked the eastern Dolomites, Italy. My painting “Hiking the Granite Giants” was inspired by the jaw dropping Cadini Di Misurina ahead of me. Right out of the gate ( literally a gate), I wasn’t watching where I was walking and was the first one down. Glad our guide was ready with a first aid kit and bandaged my knee.
