Our friends from OpenWater Sports stopped by for a sneak peak of the art, nature and recreation coming to Route 66 at The Uncommon Ground Sculpture Park! 🎨🌳🛝

They previewed the hiking paths, chatted about pollinator habitats, and checked out the fishing ponds — The Uncommon Ground’s “open water”.

We look forward to fresh air, sunshine, and Route 66 recreation, watching the OpenWater team in action at this weekend’s Route 66 Beach Festival!

Meet the Master of Realism 🖌️

Dave McGary (1958-2013) wanted to be remembered for having documented, with respect, the culture of Native American people.

His attention to detail and the technique he developed for painting bronze, earned him recognition as the Master of Realism.

“The sculptures are entirely bronze. The beaded fabric, rumpled leather clothing and feathered headdresses are bronze.

Those slender strips of fringe and impossibly wispy feathers don’t rustle at the slightest provocation.

Run your fingers over the intricate beading, the folds of the material and you feel only the coolness of metal.”

Between the lifesize stature and staggering realism of his creation, park guests may wonder if they’ve come face to face with Hunkpapa Lakota warrior, Rain-in-the-Face.

“Rain in the Face” by Dave McGary was purchased through the Edmond Visual Arts Commission (EVAC) Art in Public Places program in partnership with an anonymous donor.

Trees are COOL… literally! 🌳🆒✨

Research shows that the ambient air temperature of urban forests can be 3 to 10°F (1.5 to 5.5°C) cooler than nearby areas without trees, and the ground temperature of shaded surfaces can be 20 to 45°F (11 to 25°C) cooler than unshaded asphalt and concrete.

Trees also improve air quality by filtering pollutants and provide habitat for birds, pollinators, and other wildlife.

To date, The Uncommon Ground Sculpture Park has planted 424 new trees to contribute to a cooler, healthier community.

The Uncommon Ground Sculpture Park, Oklahoma’s first dedicated sculpture park, is 62-acres where art, nature and community come together in meaningful ways.

During the initial build of the park, we are offering engraved pavers at $2,500, each one telling a story, honoring a loved one, celebrating a milestone, or simply showing support for a space that will inspire generations to come.
