The final product of my latest piece - "Field of Dreams" - 24x30" Acrylic on Canvas.

This piece was created to submit to a gallery of paintings inspired by music. Spoiler, I didn't get in, because I got the submission deadline wrong and submitted it a day late πŸ™ƒ But stay tuned for my next post to hear the choral composition that inspired it!

I'm currently working on a piece to submit to a local gallery (due at the end of March, wish me luck!). I finished the sky and was happy with it, but then doubt started to creep in - "Are these colors too much? too out there? I'm not going for realism, but these are far too unrealistic. Maybe I need to tone it down."

Then, I see this sunset on a random Wednesday night on our street. The camera doesn't even do it justice. It was the bluest blues, deepest purples, and brightest oranges and pinks. It was a good reminder that even the craziest paint colors can be found in nature first. πŸ’œπŸ’›πŸ’™πŸ§‘

Trying to show artwork online can be challenging, because so much is lost in translation on the screen. In real life, art has so much texture and subtle color shifts. These are some of my favorite subtle color moments πŸ’œπŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ©·πŸ©΅

Oh hi, everyone! I am admittedly guilty of 'ghosting and posting' during the Christmas season... I feel like I am just getting some post-holiday bandwidth back, and it's already February πŸ˜…

To break the radio silence I've left you with, I present the latest completed work, "View from an Underwater Cave", featuring a blue heron.

If you have a better name, please let me know. I am open to suggestions with this one!

And, my daughter is constantly reminding me that I tend to paint water more than anything else... The paintings have a mind of their own, and somehow they all keep ending up this way.

If anyone is looking for a last-minute Christmas gift for children in the 3-10 age group, consider buying one of my recipe books! Now offering books for brownies, chocolate chip cookies, banana bread, and pumpkin bread.

I designed them after being frustrated as a homeschooling mom of a child who loved to bake but wasn't reading yet. Every children's cookbook was set up the same as an adult cookbook with a full wall of text. The recipe books I've created are designed to go with color-coded measuring cups, include only one clear step per page, and can grow with the child. A three year old will be able to bake with a parent while learning about colors and measurements, a five year old may be able to bake mostly independently with supervision, while a nine year old can bake independently and use more complex skills like doubling the recipes.

While not technically fine art, I did draw all of the artwork in these books (think Blues Clues style clip art). All you have to do is purchase the file, print at home or at a photo counter near you, and slot the pictures into a photo album. You'll receive full instructions with your purchase with links to the color-coded measuring cups (which yes, are on Amazon Prime).

For "small business Saturday" (is that even a thing anymore? Black Friday? Holiday shopping? etc...), consider shopping my Etsy shop for an art print!

Anytime I see mass-produced art in a store I always get sticker shock at how expensive it is! I saw an abstract mountain at Target two nights ago for $110, or someone checking out at Hobby Lobby on Monday with a $120 painting of a big cow.

Why purchase mass-produced artwork (that is, fun fact, usually stolen or produced without usage rights or royalties to the artist) when you could buy something from a local small artist?

I've tried to price my art prints competitively and affordably, because I just want people to have good art in their home. For $117 (the same cost as Target...), you could have a 2x3ft painting in your home.

Heck, I don't even care if you buy it from me - just go buy some art from someone! Just please, please be careful and make sure it's not AI πŸ˜…

Shop all of these fine art prints and more on my Etsy shop. Order by December 12th to get it by Christmas!
