Eisenhauer Gallery

Eisenhauer Gallery Stop by this contemporary gallery located in the heart of Edgartown at 38 North Water Street on the Island of Martha's Vineyard A must see!

Connecticut natives Paul Caval and Elizabeth Eisenhauer opened the Eisenhauer Gallery after meeting on Block Island in 1996. The gallery’s immediate success inspired an expansion, and a second Eisenhauer Gallery was opened in Edgartown in 2000. Though once traditional, the Eisenhauer Gallery now boasts Martha’s Vineyard’s most premier contemporary art collection, and earned Best of the Vineyard in

2015. The Eisenhauer Gallery is known for its eclectic paintings and playful but elegant showroom. Over 40 artists from places as far away as New Zealand and as local as Chilmark, MA showcase work that stimulates the soul. These artists offer talent that is certainly outside the box. In the summer, Elizabeth and Paul host live local music every Thursday in the gallery courtyard on Water Street. Whether you are collecting beautiful art online or on the island, the Eisenhauer Gallery on Martha’s Vineyard is not to be missed.

What began as a conversation in the gallery with Stephanie Rance of the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival grew into a meaningful connection between artists, storytellers, and the Martha’s Vineyard community.

That connection opened the door to a special collaboration with the festival, bringing together art, film, and community in celebration of Black creativity.

The gallery was brimming with artists, entrepreneurs, activists, neighbors, politicians, educators, and art lovers, united in admiration and support of artists across the diaspora, from South Africa to Martha’s Vineyard.

Paintings of Heritage: Black Storytelling and Cultural Legacy celebrates artists whose work reflects the richness and diversity of Black identity. Each featured artist offers a distinct perspective on heritage, exploring themes of pride, resilience, and community.

Spanning generations, from the innocence of childhood to the wisdom of the ancestors, the exhibition reveals how art carries stories forward. Together, these works remind us of the power of visual storytelling to preserve history, inspire dialogue, and shape the future.

We are deeply grateful to our incredible artists, the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival team, especially Stephanie and Kimberly, Maria Harleston, and the island community that continues to foster creativity, connection, and meaningful conversation like nowhere else.

Read more about the artists and exhibition on our website, link in bio, or stop by in person. We’re open 7 days a week.
