Acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock just dismantled a program that for decades gave small businesses owned by women, minorities, and veterans a fighting chance to compete for state contracts. The HUB program didn't hand out contracts or create quotas. It simply ensured these businesses knew when opportunities existed so they could compete on merit alongside larger corporations. Now 16,000 certified businesses have lost their certifications under emergency rules that took effect immediately, and as the Houston Chronicle reported, several certified HUB owners said they haven't been notified about the program change or received guidance on how to proceed with ongoing contract bidding. This isn't about ending discrimination. It's about consolidating power with big corporations who already have the resources and connections, leaving small business owners and the communities they support to pay the price.

American Gothic: artist Grant…”Wood intended it to convey a positive image of rural American values, offering a vision of reassurance at the beginning of the Great Depression.” Art Institute of Chicago

Deficate, Burn, and Flush: artist Helen Buck intends to convey a feeling of sheer dread at the beginning of a grotesque administration. The viewer sees the process by which the vision of hope depicted in Wood’s American Gothic is literally flushed down a golden toilet of promises never ment to be kept. Excrement and urine overflow as terrified faces peer up from the bowl found within the iconic window of Wood’s painting. Note the symbol of freedom, the USA flag has been set ablaze by the would-be dictator using the “left hand of god”
