Sweden has announced a nationwide ban on mobile phones in schools, joining a growing list of European countries moving to limit student access to personal devices during the school day.

The policy, unveiled this week, will apply to primary and lower secondary schools across the country. Students will be required to keep their phones turned off and stored away during lessons, with schools given authority to collect devices at the start of the day if necessary.

Government officials said the change is intended to improve concentration, reduce distractions and strengthen the learning environment in classrooms.
